When I was a kid my hair was unmanageable. So, my mother would put a huge glob of Dippity-Do on it every morning, then strop it down with a brush. It never worked. My hair would still stick straight up, even though it was as hard as a rock with the dried Dippity-Do. When it grew out, I had Wild Jungle Hair, like Boy in the old Tarzan films. (1 image)

You were lucky. My Mom insisted I keep mine in a crew cut. I finally grew larger then her though and was able to have hair down the small of my back by my high school years.

I'm 52 and the bane of kids forced to have stiff hair was Odell hair trainer. It would harden your locks into a hair helment.

That's exactly what Dippity-Do would do. It would have probably deflected bullets.
