To be honest with the experimentation done on me while I was in during the late 80s I can tell you that as one who learns from their mistakes, my distrust of my government started more or less about mid way through my enlistment. I was more or less done trusting anyone or anything.
So people wonder why veterans distrust their government? Pretty fucking simple. They have seen behind the curtain. Making military service mandatory and forcing everyone to do a two year stint will get them the valuable education of never trusting their elected officials and certainly never giving up their gun rights. Because these assholes will take every right you have and steal every dime they can from you, just so their pay masters can have the world they think they own.
