Acetone is fingernail polish remover.

You don't want to put it in your car; it'll eat the hell out of everything it touches. You don't want the stuff to even TOUCH you.

I've seen these articles before, and all of them are fraudulent.

I'm getting 25% more gase mileage. Women put this on their fingers.

I don't touch the stuff, I dilute it 1.5 oz to 10 Gal gasoline.

Women put it on their fingernails, not their skin.

You're going to be sorry. It's dissolving your gaskets and 0-rings as I write this.

You're getting better gas mileage because it's cleaned out you fuel injectors. You can get such things at any auto parts store.

I would never put any acetone in my tank -- and this is from a guy whose four- cylinder car has over 280,000 miles on the original transmission and engine, so I know a thing or two about cars. You'd be better off changing your air filter regularly and using platinum spark plugs.

And I wouldnt advise getting it on your auto paint.. it'll take the finish off..

Yeah, this works on a lot of cars. But you definitely have to be careful.

I know a guy that got a 20% MPG boost on a 4.6L Ford. Trouble is, these engines have plastic plugs on the intake manifold. They blew out one day on the highway.

No telling if it was the acetone or not. He hasn't been able to get a straight answer from a mecanic on this because no one wants to pass on this unorthodox procedure. Liability worries, I assume.

I went to a website that I don't have a link to anymore, and a lot of folks are really getting improved mileage with acetone. I'd do some careful research about the car that I'd be putting this additive in before I tried this.

Acetone WILL improve your gas mileage at first because it's cleaning all the gunk out of your engine. Many fuel injector cleaners have acetone in them.

The stuff is okay if used temporarily. If you use it all the time, it WILL dissolve your gaskets, your o-rings, and anything else it touches in your engine or fuel system that's made of plastic or rubber. Then you are going to be VERY sorry. It will also dissolve the paint on your car if it touches it.

ACETONE MILEAGE INCREASE IS BOGUS.

DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!! From >http://hamtonroads.com

1. But it's worse than useless, it's also harmful. Acetone is the primary ingredient in nail-polish remover. And while it will burn and is a high-octane material, it's also a very powerful solvent. So while it's in your fuel system, it'll be eagerly dissolving all of your rubber components ... like gaskets and O-rings.

2. Some cars have a rubber hose in the fuel line that goes between the fuel-cap assembly and the tank. When you add your acetone, pouring 100 percent, undiluted rubber-eater right onto that tube, you'll be eating through it in no time.

3. Here's our final reason not to use it: It dissolves paint. So if you slip and spill a little bit outside your fuel filler door, you'll have a nice, unpainted line running down to the bottom edge of your rear quarter panel. When we see you drive by, we'll know you didn't take our advice!

SO..wanna' destroy your engine? Dump acetone in the fuel tank. You'll get NO mileage increase and require a new car.
