...casting my vote *against* trying this.

I wouldn't expect so little amount of an additive to so much gas to have that dramatic an impact on MPG. Ten gallons of gasoline weighs about 61 pounds, so doing the math with 1.5 ounces of acetone means the additive makes up a very tiny 0.15% of the fuel mixture.

So if this mixture yields an average increase of 25% MPG, it certainly isn't because acetone is a fuel. The "loosening up" of hydrocarbons in the gas is an interesting theory (I've heard the same about clipping a strong magnet around your fuel line) but the cleaning properties explanation makes a lot more sense.

So if you got better milage with it on your first try, I'd say go without it on your next two tank fulls and see if the good milage continues. If so, you got your answer.

But I'd take a pass on putting acetone in gas based solely on claims found on the net. Acetone is nasty stuff, as pointed out.
