I do much of my cooking on a wood coal fire. I spread the ashes on my garden soil, it is all the fertilizer it needs. Placed in between rows it takes care of slugs and snails.

I learned a lot when I was young by listening to relatives that lived through the depression. Now in my hoary years I teach it to my children and grandchildren.
