Firefighters say the car’s owners were having trouble with the battery and couldn’t get a replacement, so they removed it and brought it inside to try to charge it. The owners did not follow manufacturers’ instructions, and the lithium-ion battery exploded.

We actually saw a Tesla car at the charging station up north last week. But did you hear about those folks up north of Chicago who planned a trip to the Windy City in their Ford electric vehicle? The first two charging stations were out of order. If it's got Li-Ion batts in it, it's gonna burn. I had an SLA (sealed lead-acid) battery go nuclear in my house in a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) several years ago (I smelled sulfur) I caught it before it became a catastrophe. Batteries are a chemical reaction and dangerous.
