Scott Perry urged that House Republicans not allow President Biden to deliver his State of the Union speech next week due to a lack of border security measures. “We need to use every single point of leverage,” the Pennsylvania Republican said Monday on Fox Business’ Mornings With Maria. “He comes at the invitation of Congress, and Republicans are in control of the House. There’s no reason that we need to invite him to get more propaganda.” Mr. Perry, the former House Freedom Caucus chairman, said Mr. Biden will use the address to “blame the American people for the crisis he’s caused.” Congress has been unable to approve a border financing bill since Senate Republicans blocked a bipartisan bill last month that would have provided aid to America’s allies while also funding border measures, including asylum procedures that upset many conservatives. Mr. Biden will pay a visit to the southern border on Thursday. Biden is scheduled to give his State of the Union address on March 7, and House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, invited him in January. Mr. Perry is not the only lawmaker who has proposed that Mr. Biden skip his speech. Sen. Joni Ernst has requested that the president provide his budget plan and National Security Strategy prior to the speech. “Well, actions speak louder than words, folks, and Biden’s budget is late once again,” the Iowa Republican said in a statement. “If the president is going to be allowed the opportunity to address Congress and the entire nation, he should actually have a plan in place. At a time when Americans are facing skyrocketing inflation and the world is on fire, we deserve more than just empty rhetoric.” The address comes just days after the government is expected to face a partial closure on Friday, with another possible the day following the address unless Congress passes spending legislation. So how’s the State of the Union? It’s a mess. And why should Biden have the opportunity to get up in front of everyone and cast aspersions as if it isn’t his fault? Of course, he’s going to use every tactic he can. As everyone knows, Biden folds immediately when he’s asked questions by a reporter or even the average American citizen. Instead, the State of the Union is the perfect opportunity for Biden to stare at a piece of paper, read it word-for-word, and then be shuffled out by his handlers.
