ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Many are noticing their property tax bills are higher this year, and many in general have a difficult time understanding the property tax process. The Allen County Chief Deputy Treasurer provided some answers to common questions. Samantha Chenery, Allen County Chief Deputy Treasurer says people dont realize that the property taxes you pay this year are based on the assessments that were done last year.
The assessed value as of January 1, 2023, some people may see an increase in their property taxes, which would be in line with the real estate market, said Chenery. When the markets doing well, obviously, the assessed value of homes is increased.
She added people will see an increase in their property tax for a while, as long as the market is doing well.
Chenery knows many new homeowners have a hard time understanding the property tax process, her explanation is below.

To the best of my knowledge, Indiana residential property taxes are supposed to be capped at 1% (one percent). Being involved in real estate and contracting for the past twenty or so years, mine are at 3-4% (three to four percent).
