Title: Alaska re-criminalizes marijuana

On Friday, Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski (R) signed a bill that has re-criminalized marijuana in the state.

Even though political observers originally expected the bill to pass within weeks of its introduction in early 2005, many months of lobbying and grassroots organizing by MPP, the ACLU of Alaska, and Alaskans for Marijuana Regulation and Control succeeded in blocking the bill for one-and-a-half years. However, an intense lobbying campaign by the governor and state attorney general, which included personal phone calls to waffling legislators, ultimately tilted the vote.

The new law, which makes it a crime to possess any amount of marijuana in the privacy of one's home, directly contradicts a September 2004 Alaska Supreme Court ruling allowing adults aged 21 and older to use and possess up to four ounces of marijuana in the privacy of their homes. (The MPP grants program funded this litigation.) The ACLU plans to challenge the new, blatantly unconstitutional law in court.

Although we lost our lobbying battle, we have much to show for the past 1.5 years of work. We demonstrated that we have a serious political operation in Alaska, including a database of almost 60,000 people whom we have identified as being supportive, which will be crucial if we run a ballot initiative to tax and regulate marijuana in Alaska in November 2008.

We also now have polling that shows we can win such an initiative campaign, because 56% of Alaskans now say that possession of small amounts of marijuana should be legal ... indicating that the media coverage we generated made major inroads in changing people's attitudes toward marijuana policy. (Visit http://www.mpp.org/AK/news/index.mpp to see a listing of this media coverage.)

All of these things give us a solid foundation to tax and regulate marijuana in the state in 2008.

However, MPP is about $60,000 in the hole because of the substantial financial support we provided to Alaskans for Marijuana Regulation and Control to (1) run radio ads criticizing the bill, (2) generate calls from thousands of Alaska voters to their legislators, (3) retain the former deputy commissioner of corrections to lobby full time against the bill, and (4) conduct public opinion polling.

We spent the $60,000 because it was the right thing to do, and I'd be grateful for any help you can provide to assist us in recovering financially from this battle. Please visit http://www.kintera.org/site/lookup.asp?c=hjJZJgMOIoE&b=980423&msource=5046 to contribute today.

Thank you,

I had the impression that Alaska was freer.

My favorite strain is anything Indica with blueberry genetic traits to it, Maple Leaf Indica x Matanuska Thunderfuck x Blueberry

Bag Appeal: (4.5) This herb will catch your eye in a bag. The color is between blue and green and it's very light/ bright orange hairs are wildly poking through the wrapped up sucker leaves. A very appealing sac of flowers that are quite dense even under conditions with less than favorable light intensity. They already have that "nugged up" look before being all handled and squished.

Aroma: (4.9) Only the most exotic and intruiging aroma I have ever encountered. Like the Maple Thunderfuck clone in the parentage...it exudes a powerful yet creamy aroma of severe complexity. Grape/ caramel and a ton of it. You might catch a whiff of a very sweet skunk type aroma from a distance. Bag in pocket, etc.

Tearing a bud open will release a more subtle tart aroma. Grape/skunky and fresh.

Taste: (4.0) subject to change after full cure) The flavor of the smoke at this point after only a flash cure (several days) is smooth yet expansive and serious overtones of sharp sweet/ sour taste with dried grape undertones. After taste is of pure delight and will certainly linger for as long as you can go without a drink. Nothing I have smoked has the creamy potent medium bodied smoke as this one does.

Effects: (4.9) Lookout! Here comes the buzzzzz!!! Ok, so you have more than a split second before the brainblitz fully desicrates your cranium. More like a full 10-20 minutes before full impact. The immediate effect is of euphoria, but not intense as if your eyes are going to explode. It's more of a feeling of relief to exhale the expansive smoke from your lungs. Once you settle in the buzz, though...that 10 minutes later or so, it's quite a ride. A full wind tunnel effect of the highest order. Virtually zero body buzz. Nothing. You could bake all day and never get heavy eyes or yawn once. Exhilirating type high flyer with long legs and a moderate ceiling. Be mindful of the fact that this is great social hightype herb, but can be overwhelming for alone in public affairs. Overendulgence is at risk here.

Duration: (5.0) It's not very often I will give any one category a 5.0 for any smoke report...but this one qualifies right up there with RCs c99 x nhaze for leggs and duration. An easy 3 hour blast. It's almost 5pm now and I'm still feeling effects from 2 pipe hits at 8am. I smoke daily and have a moderate tolerance to good herb.

Overall: (4.66) I'll have to take a look through some smoke reports to find out what RCs c99 x nhaze rated overall. I know it was high. This might be the best (for me) that I have ever gotten my hands on. Sure, it'll be easy to call me biased for making the hybrid myself, but the Maple Thunderfuck was a donation and the Blueberry is DJ Short's...so most of the props go to the genetic donors. All I did was make the match. Obviously with the breeding stock used, good things were to be expected, but even I wasn't appropriately excited for what was to come. Hail to the chiefs of reefer for making all these genes available to me for hybridizing!

Blue Dragonfly is great. Here in Wisconsin we live in indica country, blueberry anything is great, usually.
