When I lived in Chicago in late 70s, the neighbor across the street decided to throw a block party for his one daughter that was turning 16.
A few of us decided to get a head start on it and we had the tail gate down on my Blazer and a case of beer. The old boy was getting stuff from his car up the street.
This car went by slow with two black guys in it. One of the guys with us said, "Niggers! What are niggers doing around here?"
Since the cops were up the street, they got brave and backed up. They said, "Ain't no niggers here. We all gonna get busted together and go to 26th and California (Cook County Jail) where the bruthas is at."
I said to them, "Later, man." they said, "Ain't gonna be later. It's gonna be now. We got somethin' that's gonna blow your shit away."
So, I called their bluff. I had the Mini-14 just inside the door with a full 30 round mag in it.
Meanwhile, the cops had backed up and left.
The old boy up the street came over and told the two black guys, "You know what he's going to get."
I chambered a round when I came out the door.
When they saw that, they floored it and blew the stop sign at the corner getting out of there.
I told this detective I knew what had happened. He said, "If they said they had a gun they probably did."
If they had one, they would have tried to shoot me when I had my back to them going to the house. ;)
