We are always being told that Israel is a close US ally. The degree of closeness ranges from "our closest ally in the Middle East" to "our best ally in the world", depending which talking head or politician is speaking.

But WHY exactly do they consider Israel an ally? Israel provides nothing to the United States, yet WE provide security guarantees, political cover, and billions in taxpayer assistance each year in both military and economic aid.

Israel tried to sink a US warship back in 1967, are we afraid they will win a war against us if we don't pay them ransom money each year?

Israel attacks USS Liberty

They also were belligerents in the Lebanese Civil War, involved in the killing of defenseless civilians in refugee camps, and attempted to defy US Marine troops guarding a defensive zone established to prevent further bloodshed. Not long after, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was destroyed by a "suicide bomb".

Beirut barracks blown up

Prior to that, Israel was harassing US Marines, putting their lives in danger by illuminating their positions at night with spotlights shining on them from Israeli helicopters, amongst other forms of harassment.

Israel Charged With Systematic Harassment of U.S. Marines

It is said that the explosives that were used in the attack on the Marine barracks was highly sophisticated, a type of explosive available only to the US military and Israel.

That information, however, has been scrubbed from the Internet as far as I can tell.

Then we go forward to September 11, 2001..

Dancing Israelis Incident

And let's not forget that JFK had demanded Israel allow inspections of their Dimona nuclear facility to ensure that they weren't developing nuclear weapons..

When a U.S. president demanded inspections of a nuclear facility in the Middle East (and failed)

Several months later he was assassinated.

So again, someone please explain to me why Israel is considered to be a US ally, our "greatest".

I doubt Stone will ever provide a response to my question here.

A great summary, but you forgot Jonathan Pollard. Israel hired him to spy on the US, and when he was captured and convicted Israel SHAMELESSLY lobbied for his early release and when he finally got the legal all clear, went to Israel where he was showered with praise and given free citizenship.

The whole thing just REEKS of embarrassment for Americans.

But absolutely, Israel offers nothing of substance to the USA. Nothing economic, military or in terms of US foreign policy interests. On the first & last of these they are a liability to the USA as they take billions from us we cannot afford to spend, and our support earns the hatred of the entire ME Muslim world of over 1 billion people. Something that does us NO favors at all.

Evangelicals live in religious fantasy world about Israel being associated with Christian prophesy. Jews, at least the relatively modern variety, have done a great job of maintaining a self identifying cohesive unit through recent centuries, but that capability to remain exclusive unto themselves shows something about them that is more than simple religious belief.

I still believe Palestinians have far more blood of Ancient Israel in them than modern Israelis. If there is any historical accuracy to the story of Abraham, then it is Palestinians who are his descendants and have title to the promise of God to the "land of Israel". That in spite of being almost all Muslims.

Israel is a great ally because it gives us an outpost to store weapons and they give us intelligence on the evil muslims.

There is more but that is the short answer.

Evangelicals live in no fantasy world. Those who have ears to hear understand. Others have rejected the one true God and will never ever understand.

I'll go with the Bible over a relatively unknown hypnotist that 99.999999 percent of the world has never heard of.

But maybe I'm wrong and you are part of the .0000000001 percent of the population of earth that knows what is really going on.

Evangelicals live in religious fantasy world about Israel

being associated with Christian prophesy.

You are correct about the religious fantasy world.

I see it as delusion, and it goes beyond what evangelicals believe about Israel, to include even day-to-day Christian life. Catastrophic failure.

I could elaborate on this failure but I'm tired of talking about it, and I have no doubt that you are tired of hearing about it. Completely understandable.

being associated with Christian prophesy.

Just a note here: Christian prophesy is rooted in the Old Testament. I was over on the Chabad website recently, seeing what they are looking for regarding their messiah. Of course, theirs is remarkably similar to ours. It is the TIMING that both evangelicals and Jews have wrong.

The problem (that affects you and the readers here) is that Jews have taken advantage of Christian delusion to get in and break down the Christianized nations: Europe, the Americas, etc. The Jews need this to happen so that they can establish their Jew world order. However, they are basically committing suicide since they are also deluded to think this would ever work, being that they are hated by everyone. They even hate each other.

I don't see Christians waking up at all. Even if they did it is probably too late to change the course of world events. Christians will pay a heavy price for their choices, as they will be trampled under foot, starved and put to the sword in the collapse that is gaining momentum right now.

I'm sure there's a LOT that I didn't include, but yeah that's another strike against them.

Exactly. Some seem to think all those "chosen" simply disappeared for 2000 years then magically appeared 100 years ago and decided to move back to Israel, and those who were already there just popped up out of nowhere.

There are some who are seriously dumb.

Fine. But you shouldn't simply assume that today's Israel is made up of Abraham's descendants just because they chose the same name of the ancient set of tribes. Again, most modern Israelis may well call themselves Jews by religious affiliation, but people like Netanyahu clearly are not Semites.

And don't discount the very real fact that the human mind has an overwhelmingly powerful ability to believe things that are not true. It's generally not discussed anywhere because everyone thinks what they believe is extremely obvious. But it is why countries world over remain of the generally same religious faith generation after generation.

Israel is a great ally because it gives us an outpost to store weapons and they give us intelligence on the evil muslims.

Why doesn't that answer surprise me.

Yeah, you and your pals love to make the MIC rich and the rest of us poor.

As far as Muslims, they aren't any more evil than your Jewish pals, or many Christians for that matter.

Back in the days of the Cold War it was convenient to have an outpost in the region to deter Soviet adventurism. Iran was also one of those countries who served that purpose up until the Islamic Revolution back in 1980. Iraq was a US ally as well.

Iran did NOT attempt to sink a US warship like Israel did however. They also did not have anything to do with 9/11, nor have they been the recipient of roughly 3 billion US taxpayer dollars each year like Israel.

Iraq did nothing to us, yet the powers that be decided to wipe it out anyways.

Are you saying Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Jordon, Qatar, etc., are NOT US allies because their populations are mostly Muslim?

Let me fill you in, they ARE US allies.

However, Israel has had their hands in our pockets since at least the 60's, ever since JFK was killed.

Odd coincidence don't you think?
