FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A dedication ceremony will be held Tuesday to raise a new American flag at Glenbrook Dodge. The flag, which previously stood over the dealership for 21 years, has not flown since 2022 due to winter winds causing it to come crashing down. The massive American flag hasnt been flying since Dec. 23, 2022, when low temperatures and wind chills resulted in the pole snapping into three pieces and falling on a car below.
Douglas McKibben, owner of Glenbrook Dodge, has taken precautions so the new flag pole will return to its original glory. The new pole is being assembled and installed on Friday.
Tuesdays flag-raising ceremony is set to begin at 10 a.m. and will take place at 100 W Coliseum Blvd. Food trucks and beverages will be at the ceremony for the community.
According to the news release, it will stand just over 200 feet high and will be able to withstand winds up to 130 miles per hour. The previous pole stood at 232 feet, and the dealerships general manager told WANE 15 the height difference was not for any specific reason.
The raising of the new flag is awesome and we invite everyone who appreciates our flag to come out and be part of the ceremony. Every Veteran near and far is welcome. You fought for this great flag and we want you to be here to see it fly again!
