But flying off the handle comes with serious consequences. And a vulnerable Democrat ended his career with one scary threat against Donald Trump. Senate Democrat touts a poster showing a dead Donald Trump Democrats have pushed the phony narrative for years that former President Donald Trump and his supporters are domestic extremists who are a threat to commit political violence. But theyre the ones whove used overheated rhetoric and celebrated threats of violence against Trump. The near assassination of Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, brought bipartisan calls condemning political violence. Now, past support for violence against the former President is coming under serious scrutiny. U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) is the most vulnerable Democrat incumbent up for re-election this year. Hes in a barnburner of a race that could decide which party controls the Senate after the election. And a controversy from his 2018 race is coming back to bite him. Rock band Pearl Jam held an August 2018 concert to raise money for Testers re-election. The post for the concert featured a drawing of Trump lying dead on the ground with the White House engulfed in flames. Tester is pictured flying over the carnage in a tractor. The Tester campaign put out a statement at the time saying it had no knowledge of the poster and disavowed political violence. But in his 2020 book, Grounded: A Rural Democrats Fight to Unite a Divided America, Tester admitted that he loved it. As soon as word spread of how wild the posters were, fans stood in line for hours to buy them all up at $35 a pop. Christie showed me a copy, gritting her teeth, Tester wrote. Christie Roberts was his campaign manager in 2018. And theres an unmistakable image of me, flying on my tractor above the fire and fury, waving with my two-fingered left hand, Tester added. This is so . . . interesting, I told Christie. Though the poster was off message, I didnt want to admit to her that I actually loved it. Tester also said during a 2019 appearance on MSNBCs Morning Joe that Democrats should punch Trump in the face. Picking a fight with Donald Trump in Montana is a bad idea Tester is facing the toughest race of his life because he has to share a ballot with Trump this November. Trump carried Montana by 20 points in the 2016 Election and 16 points in 2020. Public polling of the Presidential race has been sparse this year because the former President is expected to cruise to victory again. The last poll out of Montana had Trump up 20 points on President Joe Biden. Testers only chance of winning requires tens of thousands of Trump voters to split their ticket for him. A lust for promoting violence against the former President makes that significantly less likely. Jon Testers political career is going to come to an end this November because hes wildly out of touch with voters in Montana. Poster Comment: Poll at source. X at source.
