Took an LCU over to green beach Subic Bay for live fire shoot and scoots, well any way going through the gate to the naval magazine the marine comes on the bus wanting to see our restricted area badges, thirty or so M16A1 bolts went home with our voices as one We Don't Need No Stinking Badges. The marine stepped off the bus told us to have a nice day and waved us through. One of the M60E would not sustain cycling. It would fire four or five rounds and stop; we were hard pressed to try to meet hot gun criteria. Hot gun for that weapon last I looked at BCSAF-010 it took 200 rounds in 2 minutes.
that was in around 83 or 84, I had 1911s and M14s in the armory on the boat, the 1911 until '97 replaced by the M9 and the M14s were still there when I left the boat in '99. In the navy all of our gats were hand me downs. I never had any issues with the M16A1s hell had one time we had 1500 rounds to fire between 6 of us in a very short time, burned through 12 30 round magazines running 7 to 8 round bursts, we only had the range for an hour that day. weapon never malfunctioned. I would go in on my off days to polish it up, they wanted me to pack a 870 for night patrol said nope I'll be taking my M16 reason being I did the maintenance on that rifle, so I knew it worked. in the early nineties we were shooting a lot of IMI head stamped ammo both 45ACP and 5.56.
I don't drink and I don't drive and I'm 64. I'm always up for shooting cans. As far as medical stuff I delivered my middle son and my youngest granddaughter, she's twenty-two now.
My middle son enlisted in the Navy he said everything I talked about of my time in was fun times I told that is because I shut out not so fun times and don't talk about them. He's out now working as a helo A&P tech He is up in Wisconsin on a gig that has gone into overtime. He was on MH53s they are just like SH53s but with a bunch of towed mine sweeping gear.
