Peter Gadiel, Joan Molinaro, and I bordered an Amtrak regional train to Washington D.C. for meetings with Homeland Security and the Republican immigration caucus. Because both events were scheduled for the same time Joan attended the caucus in the Cannon House office building while Peter and I attended the meeting with officials from Homeland Security.

Days prior to our meeting, we had to supply Homeland Security with our dates of birth and Social Security numbers.

We were met at the curb by John Minnick who is a member of DHS and is a career civil servant. He escorted us to a security office where a security official, who is not a member of DHS and is a private security guard under contract asked me to produce a photo I.D.

I produced my Mexican Matricular Card. The female security official examined the card and filled in information on a pad which had several boxes. I was given a security badge and my personal belongings where put on a conveyer and screened while I walked through a metal detector. Peter followed the same procedure and then Peter and I were escorted to the second floor of the building that houses the offices of Homeland Security. We had our meeting in the room where the officials of homeland security conducted operations during Hurricane Katrina, it was equipped with numerous TV's on the wall and clocks that gave times at different locations around the world. We sat at a large table which could seat maybe twenty people. There were 7 people from Homeland Security 5 of whom are political appointees. I think the highest ranking official was Adam Isles who’s title is Counselor to the Secretary. After everyone introduced themselves, I was asked to speak. The first thing I said was “I used my Mexican Matricular Consular Card as my photo I.D. to enter your facility." Everyone from DHS looked at me in shock. One of the officials present, said (I can't remember exactly who) said "that they would make sure that would not happen again."

For those of you who are reading this account and are not familiar with the Mexican Matricular Consular Card, I will explain the significance of this obvious breech of security in allowing me to use it as valid I.D. and allowing me to enter this “secure facility”.

The FBI has testified that this document should not be authorized to be used in the United States because it is a totally insecure document. Why? The Mexican government has no central data base and their consulates issue these photo I.D.'s to anyone who pays for its issuance. It enables illegal aliens to use them to transfer money back to Mexico from the United States. The Treasury Dept. directed by the President allows illegal aliens to use banks who accept this document as valid I.D. to do business and the banks charge a fee to wire money from the U.S. to Mexico and around the world. The FBI said such transactions could facilitate terrorist to do the same thing to finance terrorist activities. The banks political and economic pressure as usual trump National Security.

I obtained my Mexican Matricular Card by sending a photo of myself to a contact in California and he purchased it on the street for $20.00.and sent it to me.

Five years after 9-11-01 and, money still trumps our nation’s national security. Peter and I asked many questions about the lack of integrity of the immigration system, like how can DHS process millions of applications for amnesty when there are serious backlogs in the system presently and that fraud and internal corruption are rampant according to recent studies by the GAO. (General Accounting office). We also pointed out that the head of USCIS, (United States Customs and Immigration Service) Mr. Gonzales has stated on several occasions that his organization is unable to handle the work load of an amnesty.

We went on to ask many questions about the security being provided by DHS in regard to border security. We heard the same old “party line” platitudes, all of which did little to make me feel that we are more secure today than we were five years ago. We were told that the policy of “catch and release” has ended; I don’t believe that to be correct. When we asked how the guest worker program that the President wants would work, and who would ensure that the guests would return when their work cycle was over, they stated " we are working out” the details.

At best I felt that the DHS officials were sincere and well intentioned. However, their lack of experience on the issues, and the fact that they were very young and politically appointed left me believing they were not adequately capable to accomplish the mission of our nation’s needs, to secure its borders and bring integrity back to the immigration system in a meaningful way in a post 9-11 world.

We did offer to help them in contacting any elected officials obstructing legislation that DHS needed to implement, pertaining to security measures and we also told them that we were working very hard to convince elected officials at the City, State, and Federal levels that the security of our nation and its citizens must come before any other lobby interest. We also encouraged them to go to the local level of government and inform and encourage local government officials to support DHS by their implementation of the Real I.D. Act. DHS needs to give the states the correct information because as Peter stated N.H. representatives were not informed with correct information about the Real I.D. Act, Peter had to give them the correct information in order to stop legislation which would have given drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Peter told them that La Ronza, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and many other lobby groups who have much to gain monetarily like the immigration lawyers Association, are giving out incorrect information on these and other security issues to elected officials at the local level.

Also in our effort to assist DHS we notified our consultant Mike Cutler and he has contacted Adam Isles and has offered to assist him to make sure that the mistakes of 1986 are not repeated.

Please, stay active, get involved and engage your elected officials. Let them know that you do not want any form of amnesty, you want our borders secured, and you demand that integrity be restored to the immigration system.

Thank you, for taking the time to read this message. We must continue to be active. Democracy is not a spectator sport.

I am sooooo tempted to get one of these Matricular ID cards.

I figure, if I ever have to go underground, and be one of the protected minorities, it will be easy for me to learn Spanish, and become one of the oppressed minorities.

Even though I'm ghoulishly white.

What's that Mr. Nipples? You want me to ask the nice lady about her rack?.

I'm thinking I can get this Spanish thing down, and I could be the next president of Mexico. I mean, he looks pretty white.
