Grieving families in North Carolina have been forced to bury their dead in their backyards - and are accusing authorities of downplaying the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

The official death toll rose to 227 over the weekend - half of whom were from North Carolina - but state and federal officials told The Spectator that this number is woefully inaccurate.

Many bodies haven't even been recovered amid debris and flooding. There are also piles of deceased people who have yet to be identified. They are being transported all over the state in hopes of finding open morgue space.

Locals say they are 'pissed' at General Major Todd Hunt, director of the North Carolina National Guard, for waiting a whole 48 hours to get boots on the ground.

Waste of time to "blast" a federal bureaucracy.

Fema doesn't do anything for disaster victims, never has, never will.

In 2006, my family and I lived high in the Catskill mountains. We got a super cell that stalled directly over our little rented mobile home...which dropped 20 plus inches of rain in one day. Our road meandered next to a mountain stream, that turned into a raging monster, that went down the mountain and destroyed the town in the valley. My kids were 9-10 years old...loved every minute of it. We were cut off for a week, no power, no nothing. Our neighbors across the brook had a spring and they tossed bottles of water to us. We ate out of our defrosting freezer, and the mobile home had an outhouse attached behind the garage (it was once a hunting camp). After a few days the national guard marched past our house...and merely waved. A few days later the red cross left a bucket and mop by our front door...never saw them. Down in the town the businesses cursed at FEMA...never got a dime (the town may have gotten some funding, not sure).

For the hurricane stricken area, first, the state will need to rebuild the roads. Only then can the power company get trucks in to restore the power lines.

For those stuck in their mountain homes they need to ask themselves why they were not prepared, have no wood stoves (winter is coming), rely on insulin...and most importantly, why they as Christians, celebrated the destruction of Gaza in their dead churches. Because destruction has now come to them.
