(WANE) Residents in the Southwood Park neighborhood were shocked to find hundreds of flyers that appeared to be from the Trinity White Knights Ku Klux Klan (or KKK) on Sunday evening. Several neighbors met Monday night to discuss the pamphlets, with hopes of curbing some anxiety. The flyers contained anti-immigration rhetoric, pairing illegal immigration with violent crime, sex offenses, and more. There was also information on the Trinity White Knights, a chapter of the KKK based in Kentucky. Residents strongly opposed the content of the flyers. Just repulsed, saddened, this is not something that we espouse in our house or in our wonderful, welcoming community, said Southwood Park resident, Julia Stambaugh. Many residents wondered why their neighborhood was chosen. Historic Southwood Park Neighborhood Association President, Steve McCord said the pamphlets could be in response to The Refuge, which is a proposed nonprofit in the area that aims to help immigrants in Fort Wayne through a variety of services. McCord said that misinformation about the center has been circulating on social media. Im hoping that people can go back and listen to or read about what the investors at The Refuge want to do with the building, said McCord. And not listen to the misinformation that other media outlets used for pressing hot button issues and trying to get ratings and clicks online. 5th District City Councilman, Geoff Paddock attended the event and spoke to concerned neighbors. The neighborhood is one of 45 in his district. You know the Ku Klux Klan is an organization that we hoped would die out when some of the old fogies that started the organization left this planet years ago, said Paddock. Its something that should have. But racism sometimes rears its ugly head in a newer generation and thats unfortunate, but we have to stand together as a community. We are an inclusive community. We appreciate our neighborhoods, and everyone is welcome in our neighborhoods. Poster Comment: KKK. LOL. FBI. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
