President Javier Milei of Argentina has taken a decisive step toward reducing government waste by announcing the closure of the nations tax collection agency, Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos (AFIP). This move is part of his broader plan to slash bureaucratic inefficiencies and lower government spending. In its place, the Agencia de Recaudación y Control Aduanero (ARCA) will take over, promising a more efficient and cost-effective system. According to spokesperson Manuel Adorni, AFIP had long served as a political tool for oppression, subjecting many Argentines to unwarranted persecution. Milei's plan aims to dismantle the burdensome bureaucracy that has stifled economic freedom and innovation. This restructuring is expected to save Argentina $6.4 million annually, driven by a reduction of over 3,000 staff and a significant cut in top-level positions.
