Turkey’s claim over Jerusalem has ignited intense controversy, fueling tensions in the region. President Recep Tayyip Erdoan’s assertion that Jerusalem belongs to Turkey is grounded in the city’s Ottoman past. He highlights the significant contributions made during Ottoman rule, particularly the iconic structures built by Suleiman the Magnificent. But the claim is far from a simple historical reference—it’s a political statement that’s stirred strong backlash from Israel and beyond.

Jerusalem is sacred to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. For Israel, it’s the heart of their national identity. Erdoan’s rhetoric challenges this, with his declaration that “Jerusalem is our city” seeking to push Turkey’s influence in the Muslim world. In doing so, he critiques Israel’s actions in Jerusalem, accusing the country of trying to “judaize” the city, dismissing Palestinian rights.

This claim isn’t just a territorial dispute. It’s a part of Erdoan’s broader strategy to enhance Turkey’s leadership role among Muslim- majority nations, positioning it as a counter to Saudi Arabia’s influence. His nationalistic and religious rhetoric has become the foundation of his political narrative, and this move plays directly into that framework.

Jerusalem holds deep historical and legal significance to Israel, and Erdoan’s claim has been branded provocative. The international community is equally concerned, recognizing the potential for further destabilization in the already fragile Middle East. The situation threatens to escalate an already volatile relationship between Turkey and Israel.

Erdoan’s remarks only add to the growing list of contentious issues between Turkey and Israel. From support for Hamas to disagreements over Gaza, the tension between these two nations has been mounting for years. The claim over Jerusalem could set back efforts for peace, further complicating an already complex geopolitical landscape.

This claim is more than a territorial dispute—it’s a reflection of Erdoan’s broader ambitions. While his supporters rally behind his nationalist rhetoric, the impact on peace and stability in the region could be profound. Jerusalem’s conflict is a deep-rooted issue with no easy answers, and this latest move only complicates the road ahead.

Turkey is now claiming Jerusalem as its own

Palestine was an Ottoman area with a minority Jewish population in 1917 when the British Foreign Secretary Sir Arthur Balfour wrote the Balfour Declaration which was presented to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. This Declaration promised the Jews a national homeland in Palestine which at the time was an Ottoman area.

On 9-11-2001 when the Twin Towers went down, there were five men recording the incident from New Jersey. They were dancing and making gestures toward the Towers and giving each other High fives.

They were picked up by police and held for a month. They were found to be Israeli nationals. They refused to take lie tests. When they finally agreed to take them, they all failed miserably. They were then deported.

In an interview on Israeli TV, they were asked why they were there on 9- 11. One of them replied, "We were there to document the events."

How did they know there were going to be "events"? This indicated foreknowledge of the events of the day.

Arafat always insisted the real problem in Palestine was the Zionists.

When I worked for Illinois State Highways, this big shot engineer wrote an Op-Ed for the Chicago Tribune titled, I Am A Zionist.

He was in the yard one day and his car was dirty. I wrote "WASH ME" on it. When he saw that he started jumping up and down and screaming. They made the yard toady wash his car. ROTFLMAO!
