Putin is already known for traveling in a caravan of many dozens of cars for protection, with it not known which car he is in. He's not stupid. He already knows he is a high risk target.

Absolutely correct.

There was an attempt to shoot down his airliner, but an aircraft with similar markings was shot down instead.

In the early 80s we heard the Reagan would visit Gordon Tech High School which was not far from where I lived. We drove over there but Police would not allow people onto California Ave. But we found a house with a wide yard and you could look thru the chain link fence and see him when he got out of the Limo. ;)
