Why Don't We Have Good Young Mechanics?

I could go on all day about this. I might just do that later if I can get my shit squared away.

I'll get started a little bit:

1. Requires common sense.
2. It's work.
3. It's hard work.
4. It's dirty work.

JC Whitney catalog. LOL, I used to read those like comic books when I was a kid.

I used to be as car-crazy as I was girl-crazy back in the day. When you say "Back in the day," it means you're old. The younger generations past GenX never had "a day" and GenX didn't have much of one.

I probably broke more than a few dates to diddle my car instead of a young lady. I can take or leave cars now. There's not much you can do with them without being a SpaceX rocket scientist anymore except replace worn out parts.

This could be a great nostalgia thread with the right input.

My oldest son used to ask me how to fix this or that on his cars, I'd ask him "what does the book say?" he'd said (once) what book? I'd say get the book and we'll go from there. Any more I just make sure nothing fell on him. We didn't have hydraulic clutches back in the day, my first two cars came with Armstrong Steering.

...my first two cars came with Armstrong Steering.

"What the hell is that?" [Two seconds later...] "Duh!"

The clown car (2010 Smart) has that. It probably weighs about the same as my buddy's Harley tour bikes, it doesn't really need P/S. I think it has manual brakes too, I'm pretty sure. It's always a shock to get in my Tacoma now, it feels like the brakes are going to the floor the first few stops.

I had a buddy with a manual brakes mid-70s Camaro. You really had to stand on the pedal to haul that sumbitch down.

...mid-70s...

Damn, 50 years ago. Shit.

My old '76 Blazer had manual brakes and three on the tree plus lock out hubs. It was stripped down and I went to Arkansas (did some ridge running and mineral collecting) and even New Mexico to collect at the old Blanchard Mine.

After the turn of the century, I was driving a big truck on U.S. Hwy 380 going thru Bingham. There was a car parked in front of the old mine shack so I stopped the truck. I tried the door, and it opened up. There was a guy in there with a pistol on his hip. There were display cases with mineral specimens in them.

I looked around a few minutes and told the guy, "I collected here when Mrs. Blanchard was still alive." He said, "Really?"

That is older memory from 15 years ago. ;)

One mechanic here in town was using gasoline as a parts cleaner. He must have a death wish since static electricity can ignite those vapors.

That is why they make Safety Kleen. ;)

Not much luck there. I didn't make it to the store, the weather is rainy and crappy. I did get the laundry done and bathrooms cleaned up and started dinner.

Maybe Doc can go to the store and help me pick things out tomorrow morning, I'm running out of ideas.

I prepared homemade lasagna a couple Thursdays ago and put it in the deep freeze. All I had to do was pop it in the oven for an hour, take the foil off and give it another 15 minutes. Kim really liked that and I didn't have to waste my time in the kitchen when she's here.

Our time together on weekends is too short to piss away. She worked a couple of 12-hour shifts at the hospital Christmas and Day. I guess some body has to do it. I thought this week would never end.

The doctor, Dr. Docmar (AKA: Kimmy), is in the house.

This song is best listened to with the sound off.

I probably broke more than a few dates to diddle my car instead of a young lady.

That's true. Jim had a bunch of car guy friends. I spent my fair share of time looking at their asses bent over their engines in those tight jeans. 😇

I can take or leave cars now.

Sure thing. Try to get his clown car away from him. I think his favorite thing about it is the secret compartment in the tailgate where he carries his machine gun in case zombies attack.

This could be a great nostalgia thread with the right input.

I talked Pac into taking the center console out of his Z28 so I could sit next to him when we went anywhere. It left a hole in the carpet so he had his mother make a cushion to cover it and bring it up to the level of the seats. I'd sit with my legs straddling the gear shift. It was sexy but not the safest thing I've ever done TBH.

The worst thing about that car was that it didn't have air conditioning. It played Hell on my seventies big hair in the summer. It had a great stereo in it though. He installed car stereos at a place near downtown while he was in school. Full time in the summer.

Slut. LOL!

I think his favorite thing about it is the secret compartment in the tailgate where he carries his machine gun in case zombies attack.

It's not a 'machine gun' it's a select-fire AR-15 carbine, and it's not zombies, it's VaxZombies.

I talked Pac into taking the center console out of his Z28 so I could sit next to him when we went anywhere.

I haven't thought about that in years.

It left a hole in the carpet so he had his mother make a cushion to cover it and bring it up to the level of the seats.

That was about the time your mother made us those matching polyester Grim Reaper Halloween costumes. Mine's still hanging in the garage.

Absolutely goddamned right, it was. I still like my hand(s) near/on your crotch.

He installed car stereos at a place near downtown while he was in school. Full time in the summer.

Two places, actually. One was a joint that did warranty work for the automakers for the US (probably just this region, it wasn't that big), the other was a home/auto stereo joint.

Too much to type tonight.

(Edit) You remember how Paul and Kurt used to call you Miss Thin Legs? They were looking at more than your butt. ;P

OMG! That's what that dirty and cobweb covered thing that is hanging off the side of a cabinet in your garage is?

It's authentic now anyway. I don't remember what happened to mine. Beth may have taken it. I'll ask her about it.

Sure thing. Try to get his clown car away from him.

The Clown Car was having a bit of fun at Kim's expense going to and from Kroger today. She doesn't like it because it's so small because that means unsafe to her. The car is probably unsafe because of the nut holding the steering wheel.

I think the clutch actuator had a burr up it's ass because the engine would speed up going into 2nd gear like the clutch was slipping on the way to the store. That was cleared up on the way home, but the motor chuffed pretty hard a couple of times turning onto New Haven avenue. It must not have been that bad, the engine light didn't come on.

Kimmy muttered, "Damn car."

I told her, "The two of you need to make nice with each other."

"Tell that to the car."

"You should know that cars don't have ears, Doc." LOL!

(Edit) I think Kim was just mad because they didn't have nice flowers at Kroger today. She made up for it in the ice cream section. I made up for it in the liquor aisle.
