Emergency room wait times vary significantly across the United States depending on factors such as hospital resources, patient volume, and staffing levels, with some states facing delays that can stretch for more than three hours.

Long stays in the emergency department often point to issues like understaffing or overcrowding, leading to delays in treatment, and often times, worse patient health outcomes.

This map, via Visual Capitalist's Kayla Zhu, visualizes the average time patients spend in the emergency department before leaving, by U.S. state and territory.

Data comes from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is updated as of Oct. 30, 2024.

This data reflects the average time patients spend at the emergency department, from the time they arrive to the time they leave, and excludes those who died in the emergency department, left without the approval of a licensed provider, or lacked documented discharge destinations.

Indiana 2 hrs 5 mins. Tn is 2 hrs 38 mins. But my small town is probably faster than Memphis and Nashville.(1 image)

The Texas town I live in is no way a two hour twenty-six-minute wait, one could spend a good bit of time deciding which ER to go to. I could walk to three of them in under twenty minutes plus another twelve ERs across the highway. So yes I believe you are correct in that town population is a major factor. I've never had the sign in papers completed before being seen.

By and by we joke around here about new business construction will be a car wash or ER, though oddly never together. Gotta keep em separated?

They won't have far to drag you when you fetch that honey outta the top of that tree...

Make sure to wear your tree climbing shoes, ghostman.

I leave the climbing to my son as the bees are his hobby. He's getting another hive set up ready for them. The closest ER from the tree is about four maybe five blocks away three if I cut through yards.

He should hire these guys :)

Be careful out there, sir...those ER's are probably staffed by doctors who can barely speak English. Red dot specials if you know what I mean.
