God, being omniscient, knew that their enfants would grow up to be utterly barbaric (otherwise God would have spared them). Even the livestock needed to be destroyed because people were superstitious in those days and those who got the livestock of the Amalekites would have been tempted to carry on the traditions of the Amalekites. Even so, because Amalek was spared, his descendants went on to become the Edomites. Today, the Rothschilds have taken the name of the Edomites.
