Apparently, they drilled some of those gold bars and found some gold-plated bars of Tungsten. I would weigh thr bars. If we are sure of the volume in metric, we can multiply by specific gravity to get the weight.

I think I'd still drill them from multiple axis.
If it's done right, the average density of fake bars would equal the density of gold. But other tests could be done, like electrical resistance, center of gravity measurements, and relatively simple vibration frequency tests (hit it with something and see what audio frequency it vibrates at) could be done.
That is ignorant. It will not work. Mix a bit of Platinum with Tungsten, both are much cheaper than gold, and the specific gravity is identical to gold. Then coat it with a thin layer of gold and your test will prove it is a bar of pure gold.

I walked around in jungle plenty when I was young and don't feel like going through any given conquistadores' notes looking for some creek in Guatemala.

Every day I check the prices of gold, silver, and platinum. Gold is three times the price of platinum.
