A new bat coronavirus named HKU5-CoV-2, discovered by a Chinese research team led by virologist Shi Zhengli, has been identified as capable of infecting humans. This virus can use the human ACE2 receptor to enter cells, similar to SARS-CoV-2, raising concerns due to its potential for zoonotic transmission. Laboratory tests have confirmed its ability to infect human cell tissues.
