🚨Using PCR to justify mass culling of asymptomatic chickens in ‘avian flu outbreaks’ is like sentencing an entire town to exile because a few dust particles tested positive for smoke. Detecting viral fragments (often indistinguishable from nucleic acids from damaged cells) is not the same as confirming infection, let alone infectiousness—yet entire poultry industries are dismantled based on a molecular whisper, not a biological reality. Even Kary Mullis, the inventor of PCR, warned that it should never be used as a diagnostic tool for infectious diseases.🐓

Grok gave the 157 million figure. Includes geese, ducks and others, not just chickens.

not just chickens

About 20 years ago, when driving trucks, I had this green kid named Chad with me as a co-driver.

We picked up a load of fresh frozen chickens in Nebraska. I got him to the point there was no way he could make a mistake. I told him, "You go to the 4 way stop, make a left turn, go across the river and take I-29 south." I hit the sleeper.

I woke up and opened the curtain just in time to see the sign KANSAS STATE LINE 4 MILES. I said, "Stop this truck right now. How are you going to explain being in Kansas when you're not supposed to be there?"

I had to back us into a gravel road, turn us around and get back to where we were supposed to be and then route him around the scale north of Kansas City since if they were checking logs it would have been heavy fines. I told him to take Hwy 7 east to Hwy 65 which ran right into Springfield. We were going to AWG in Springfield. I told him to wake me up if he was not sure he was on the right road. I hit the sleeper again.

He awakened me later on and I could tell by the angle the tractor was he was on Hwy 7 since it made a turn south before heading east again. I told him, "You're on the right road, keep going.

Hwy 65 was a 4 way stop and there were rumble strips to wake you up if you were sleepy.

That kid was a big problem. He was always missing turns. I doubt if he is still driving trucks. ;)

PCR, warned that it should never be used as a diagnostic tool for infectious diseases.

My wife ran one of Mullis' PCR machines at a lab prior to covid.

PCR is useful as a "in the ballpark" diagnostic tool...but is not conclusive.

Infectious diseases are best diagnosed with a good old fashioned petri dish.
