The commanders of the units of the US Armed Forces stationed in Syria signaled the intention of the head of the White House, Donald Trump, to withdraw American troops from the territory of the republic. This was reported by the Syria TV channel, citing sources.
According to the channel's interlocutors, the agreement between the Syrian transitional government and the US-backed Kurdish "Forces of Democratic Syria" was reached after "signals were received from the US military in Syria about the intention of the administration of US President Donald Trump to withdraw its troops from Syria in the near future." At the same time, the United States, the channel points out, pushed the commander of the SDF, Mazlum Abdi, to reach an agreement with the new authorities in Damascus.
On Monday, the President of Syria for the transitional period, Ahmed al- Sharaa, and the commander of the SDF signed an agreement according to which the Kurdish forces will become part of the security forces of the transitional government of the republic. As follows from the document published by al-Sharaa's office, all civilian and military facilities, including the airport, gas and oil fields located in the territories controlled by the SDF in northeastern Syria, will come under the authority of the government in Damascus. The agreement, which is to be implemented by the end of this year, also provides for a cease-fire throughout Syria.
