— They Now Face a Fate Worse Than Death

UPDATE: A radical federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has issued an emergency injunction demanding that planes already in the air turn back mid-flight.

According to the ACLU, there are two flights en route to Central America. One flight bound for El Salvador may have already taken off.

Original report: Hundreds of Venezuelan gangsters are facing a fate worse than death in one of the world’s most notorious prisons.

300 members of the Venezuelan transnational gang, Tren de Aragua, will be deported from the United States to El Salvador as part of a $6 million agreement between the two countries.

“The Republic of El Salvador confirms it will house these individuals for one (1) year, pending the United States’ decision on their long term disposition,” wrote El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a memo obtained by the Associated Press.

These violent gangsters will now be transferred to El Salvador’s mega- prison, Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), which houses 40,000 inmates in some of the most brutal conditions in the world.

The prison houses El Salvador’s most dangerous gang members, many of whom belong to the MS-13 and Barrio 18.

Inmates endure extreme confinement, spending 23.5 hours per day in overcrowded cells with minimal sanitation facilities.

There are no rehabilitation programs, no family visits, and no external communication.

The deal between the two countries was struck last month by Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a trip to the Central American country.

“We can send them and he will put them in his jails,” Rubio said at the time.

“And, he’s also offered to do the same for dangerous criminals currently in custody and serving their sentences in the United States even though they’re U.S. citizens or legal residents.”

Bukele confirmed the deal on his X account and said that the U.S. would be charged a “relatively low” fee.

“We have offered the United States of America the opportunity to outsource part of its prison system,” Bukele wrote at the time.

“We are willing to take in only convicted criminals (including convicted U.S. citizens) into our mega-prison (CECOT) in exchange for a fee.”

“The fee would be relatively low for the U.S. but significant for us, making our entire prison system sustainable.”

Nayib Bukele @nayibbukele

We have offered the United States of America the opportunity to outsource part of its prison system.

We are willing to take in only convicted criminals (including convicted U.S. citizens) into our mega-prison (CECOT) in exchange for a fee.

The fee would be relatively low for the U.S. but significant for us, making our entire prison system sustainable.

The facility in El Salvador is brand spanking new. According to Grok, It's only at 1/3rd to 1/2 capacity right now. Total capacity is 40,000. I suppose what constitutes "capacity" of 40,000 could be subjective.

Thia makes Castro's Mariel boat lift look like a joke. But it might relieve some pressure in the U.S. prison system. ;)
