The earliest known source for this quote is a 1941 book titled "The Kingdom of God and the American Dream" by Sherwood Eddy, who claimed to be quoting Tocqueville.
Despite its disputed origin, the quote has been used by various political figures and in different contexts to discuss the moral character of the United States. It is often referenced in discussions about the relationship between the moral integrity of a nation and its greatness.
De Tocqueville's actual writings do include reflections on the importance of moral and religious values in American society. In "Democracy in America," he wrote, "Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great".
I have a copy of his book Democracy in America lying in a box here some place.
And anyone who has researched any of this 9-11 stuff knows about the QRS-11 Flight Interrupter chip was installed in all commercial aircraft in the 1990s. ;)
