These states are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura. Sikkim, known as the "brother" state, was later included in the North Eastern Region. Arunachal Pradesh: Located in the northeastern tip of India, claimed by China as South Tibet. Assam: Known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse ethnic groups. Manipur: Famous for its rich ethnic culture and prevalence of Tibeto- Burman languages. Meghalaya: Known for its Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo hills, became a state in 1971. Mizoram: Known for its unique tribal culture and the Phawngpui peak. Nagaland: Known for its Naga Hills and Mount Saramati, the highest peak in the region.
