To Advance Normalization of Diplomatic Ties Between the Two Nuclear Superpowers Its hard to stomach the gleeful reports in the USAID-media openly celebrating the difficulties faced by the Trump team in getting Russians and Ukrainians to agree to a cease-fire and subsequent negotiations for a permanent peace settlement.
Weve written here in TGP that the media mockingbirds were going to pivot from peace talks are impossible and will never take place to negotiations are taking too long.
While the obstacles for a peace in Ukraine are very real, the wider détente between the two nuclear powers, US and Russia, is advancing and thats consequential progress.
Reports have arisen that Vladimir Putins special envoy Kirill Dmitriev is to visit Washington this week, to hold a meeting with Trump representative Steven Witkoff.
If confirmed, Dmitriev will be the first senior Russian official to visit Washington since the onset of the war in 2022.

🚨 🇷🇺 🇺🇸BREAKING: PUTIN ADVISOR TO MEET TRUMP TEAM IN DC THIS WEEK
For the first time since the war in Ukraine broke out, a senior Putin official is heading to Washington - with special permission to enter despite being under sanctions.
Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of Russia's sovereign wealth fund and key Putin ally, received a temporary sanctions lift to meet with Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff as peace talks accelerate.
The Harvard-educated Dmitriev previously helped secure American teacher Marc Fogel's release from Russian prison - described as a "goodwill gesture" toward the Trump administration.
This diplomatic breakthrough comes despite Trump's recent frustration with Putin, who he claims is "dragging their feet" on peace talks.

Trump needs a ceasefire so he can get the war going against Iran.
Putin can always give the Houthis and Iran more and better missiles. Ditto for China. They want to take America down a peg or two beore confronting Taiwan.
