Politics is full of surprises, like finding money in an old coat pocket. For years, experts have told us which voters belong in which party’s column. They draw neat little boxes and expect everyone to stay inside the lines.
But voters have minds of their own. Sometimes they look at results, not promises. They care about what affects their daily lives – jobs, safety, and putting food on the table. And when a party takes voters for granted, those voters notice.
Legal immigrants are now siding strongly with President Trump on immigration policy. This represents a stunning reversal that has left Democratic strategists in shock. According to CNN polling expert Harry Enten, immigrant voters have shifted dramatically to the right on immigration issues.

“You go back to where Democrats were in 2020: Democrats held a 32-point lead [among legal-immigrant voters]. Immigrant voters were in the Democratic camp. Jump forward to 2024/2025 — look at that shift! — a 40- point shift to the right among immigrant voters. Republicans now lead on this issue [among immigrant voters] by 8 points over Democrats.”
