(WANE) Saturday, Fort Wayne will join nationwide protests against President Trump in what they are calling No Kings protests. The No Kings protest are set to take place to counter what organizers say are Trumps plans to feed his ego on his 79th birthday and Flag Day. No Kings will follow several days of nationwide protests against federal immigration raids, including in Los Angeles, where Trumps deployment of the National Guard further agitated his opponents Fort Wayne specifically is looking to, reclaim kindness, according to a release. They will be collecting hygiene products for a local food bank. The list includes: Soap: laundry, liquid hand bar and dish (non-dishwasher). Jim Carpenter, a Co-Founder for Indivisible Northeast Indiana, told WANE 15 Friday, ahead of the protest, Indivisible Northeast Indiana is proudly participating in the June 14 National Day of Mass Mobilization. Our No Kings/Reclaim It peaceful rally is one of more than 2000 events planned for the day. We, locally, will be honoring our veterans, collecting small household items for Fort Wayne food banks, and continuing our mutual aid outreach in our community. Fort Wayne has previously joined nationwide protests, some of the latest being in April, as part of the Hands Off protest. In the release, the organizing group said they have a commitment to nonviolent actions. Those participating are asked to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. The protest is set to take place on the Allen County Courthouse Lawn from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. WANE 15 reached out to the Allen County GOP Chairman, Steve Shine who believes the right to protest government policy is a cherished, fundamental principle of democracy. No one should ever be precluded from expressing their opinion, whether that expression takes place on an individual basis, or in gatherings across the country, such as those that we have seen today, said Shine. What is difficult to understand, however, is that while the basis for these protests are characterized as a President acting more like a King rather than a President, the actions of the Trump administration are simply implementing that which three previous Democrat Presidents promised to do, but only provided lip service. Protestors are confusing strong leadership with authoritarianism. Poster Comment: Yeah, right. Do ya think maybe they can equate Otto von Bismarck appointing Adolph Hitler as Chancellor of Germany in 1933? This action triggered the Jewish boycott of German-made goods when Judea Declares war on Germany. ;)
