World News See other World News Articles Title: Shahed 149 Drone The Shahed 149 Gaza is an Iranian unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. It was unveiled on 21 May 2021 and named after the Gaza Strip in honor of the Palestinians' struggle against Israel amid the 2021 IsraelPalestine crisis. It was delivered to the IRGC Aerospace Force in 2022. The Gaza drone is a high-altitude long-endurance UAV similar in size, shape and role to the American MQ-9 Reaper. It is a larger, heavier, and more capable aircraft than the earlier Shahed 129 which was similar to the MQ-1 Predator. It has a flight duration of 24 hours, a maximum operating radius of 2,500km (1,562 miles), 21m wingspan, 340 km/h maximum speed and is capable of carrying 13 bombs and 500 kg of electronic equipment. It is the first Iranian UAV powered by a turboprop engine. Iran unveiled the Shahed-149 Gaza drone at the DIMDEX 2024 expo, which was held from March 4th to 6th, with Army Recognition as the official media partner. This unmanned aerial vehicle, first unveiled in 2021, stands out among the innovations presented, highlighting Iran's technological advancement and armament production capability. According to a video published by Iran's National TV on January 26, 2025, Iran has officially operationalized its Shahed-149 "Gaza" unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), a high-altitude, long-endurance drone capable of striking targets up to 4,000 kilometers away. The announcement follows the successful deployment of the drone during the "Great Prophet 2025" military exercise, where it engaged multiple mock targets with high precision. Images circulated online show the Shahed- 149 equipped with eight Sadid-345 guided glide bombs, underscoring its formidable strike capabilities. The Iranian military presented a new Shahed-149 ("Gaza") attack drone with a wingspan of 22 metres and a range of up to 4000 km. Poster Comment: This done can wreak havoc on Israeli defenses.
