USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) was a mine sweeper, once. Iran can lay a mine field that they control with safe passage for those they wish to let through. The Roberts hit a mine that the Soviets made back in 1943, Iran has modernized since, influence mines that are immune to sweeping without losing a vessel. Our side sweep sonar could not detect mine shapes that we had the planting posits for. Look for everything from the UAE to Basra to go idle. Every boat in the Iranian navy can be rigged for surface mine laying.
