The Cradle @TheCradleMedia ⚠️ Warning: Distressing footage. UPDATE: The child has been confirmed to be Afghan, and had been living with his family in Iran before they relocated to Moscow due to the war.
An 18-month-old boy is in a coma after a brutal attack at Moscows Sheremetyevo Airport, where he was violently slammed to the ground by 31-year-old Belarusian tourist Vladimir Vitkov.
According to reports online, the assailant was Jewish, with some users claiming he held Israeli citizenship.
The boy, nearly two years old, suffered serious skull fractures and spinal injuries.
The child had just arrived in Russia with his pregnant mother, fleeing Israel's war on Iran. CCTV footage shows Vitkov suddenly grabbing the toddler in the arrivals hall and throwing him headfirst onto the floor, causing skull and spinal injuries.
The mother, who was only meters away, was retrieving a pushchair when the attack occurred. Bystanders quickly intervened, and Vitkov was arrested at the scene.
Russian authorities have launched an attempted murder investigation, with potential motives including drug influence and racial hatred. Vitkov had cannabis in his system and was reportedly carrying other drugs. His female companion was in shock, and reports indicate he has a daughter around the same age as the victim.
