The Axial Seamount volcano is off the coast of Oregon on the western edge of the Juan de Fuca plate which subducts beneath the northerly portion of the western side of the North American plate at the Cascadia subduction zone. That volcano is expected to erupt by the end of 2025. It will put pressure on the Cascade fault as the Juan de Fuca plate subducts underneath it.. Subduction zone quakes are the biggest, ranging from 8 to 9.
A quake on the Cascade range which goes from BC to Cape Mendocino in northern California could devastate a west coast city from Portland to Seattle to Vancouver BC. But it could also shock Mt Rainier and other volcanoes in the area (Mt Hood, Mt Baker, the 3 Sisters and Mt St Helens) into erupting.
A lahar is a sort of flash flood of lava, melted snow and ice, mud, rocks and debris. The south side of Seattle and Tacoma have seen massive lahars from Mt Rainier in the past. I do not expect this to happen before Christmas this year, maybe in 2026?
What I do expect soon would be earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis off the coast of Japan.
I also expect 2026 the be another "year without a summer."
