what is the synopsis? My speakers are broken.
Twenty % + of the active population are authority followers, and will aggressively back whomever can identify themselves with the state, no matter how transparent their propaganda ("cut and run" comes to mind). Critical thinking is not high on the list for this group. If Dear Leaders commands it, it must be recieved wisdom. It , according the Dean, is a quite well documented phenomana, and explains the rabid followers of many governmental fascists in the past and present. I whitnessed this when I was a delegate to the Repub convention in Colorado Springs a few months ago. A group violently, expressed their support for a military based candidate, and his whole line was very fascist. True believers. Dean was stating that this was a real social reality, and anyone trying to understand how human politics works, needed to be aware of it.

So 23% of us will follow an authoritative figure (der Fuhrer) off the cliff. This is news? However, I disagree that it's only "right wing conservatives." Many of the Dems in Congress seem to be following their orders pretty well. John Dean seems to be bent on stirring up a new "right-left, Repub-Dem" controversy, where certainly none is needed. Most of these labels are crap. Maybe most of those so-called "right wing conservatives" composing the 23% are the same folks who are so stupid that they have failed to notice that the Repubs in power are not conservative, not Christian, not following the constitution, and not adhering to the traditional conservative policies of less government and fiscal responsibility. Dean is pointing out the use of fear-mongering and terror to empower more authoritarianism. The OKC bombing occurred during the Clinton Adm. The use of fear as a tool to strip the people of their rights has been around for centuries and you don't see John Kerry and Hillary exposing it.
Sounds wonderful.
