From looking over some of "Crystalk"'s postings today on LP, I get the distinct impression that he/she/it thinks itself the forum owner. As Goldi-Lox has been strangely silent as of late, where Crystalk posts 24/7, I wonder what is really going on.... 6. To: Pravoslav (#5) You should be banned, but I will just bozo you. I tend to think and maybe mistakenly that it probably has to do more with politics or ideology rather than monetary reasons.
The name's origin is from some Arcane reference meaningful to his brand of intolerant and apocalyptic Christianity. I have punned on his name as it has "cry" in it and he is an ignorant, prissy and malicious little cry baby and he lectured me about the need to respect the word he uses as a handle online. You well could be right, but as someone who has had lectures about my unsuitable for LP by him and Quantrill both - Quantrill always makes a motion for banning in a ping to Goldi - I only go by my opinion based on my impression of him.

Interesting. I know Stone is someone I would be sorely tempted to punch in the nose if I met him and he talked the trash in the flesh he does online. And that is rare for me to get that pissed off at age 52 after over ten years of posting in political forums.

What specifically were you banned for? Hi honway, good to see you here on the other side of the darkness. There were a few things I think caused my banning, the least of which may be that Goldi isn't even really Goldi, depending on the day of the week. Specifically, I hadn't posted on LP for a week or so, as the FRetards were flocking there and were simply making it hard to have a decent conversation about anything. I saw a few attacks from some of them, and saw that Boot Hill had pinged Goldi and others trying to make you out to be a coward for not responding as fast as they liked, so I responded that you had in fact responded and stated the facts, contrary to what Goldi was saying. After that, I came under attack on various threads by Margueritte, liberator, Apokalipsis, Crystalk, and various other blood thirsty shills whenever I tried to inject some reason into their blood dance over the UN observers that were killed, or the deaths of innocent children. They tag teamed me, and I grew sick of the attack, so I told them what I thought of them, where these people proclaim themselves to be Christians, yet speak and act in such a way as to be totally contrary to what Jesus tried to teach. Eventually, liberator stated that he wanted Kofi eliminated, and I said to him he might want to watch out for the Secret Service due to his comments. I pinged Fred and asked him if he might know anyone interested in those sorts of comments. It was sort of a joke, but also an attempt to slap some sense into this idiot that was suggesting an assassination against UN Secretary General Kofi. Goldi, or someone on her account, gave me the following messages... Are you the snot who called them on one of our other members? You are SO out of here. BANNED !! Of course, I had also posted material that demonstrated the true nature of Israeli antagonization of US Marine positions during the 1982-1984 mess in Lebanon, as well as comprehensive material on Pakistan's involvement in 9/11.
I think Crystalk probably gets a hard-on everytime he sees your pic.
I think Cynicom was on to something in theorizing that Goldi may have handed the reigns of the forum over to the likes of Crystalk and others that she "trusts". In fact, for the majority of the time on that forum, Goldi was virtually non-existant, and posted only on certain topics. All hell could be breaking loose, and she wouldn't be there to reign in the forum as needed. She may have delegated certain functions over to those she thought "worthy". VERY POOR judgement if such is the case here.
People can claim anything they want. Their words and deeds identify who they really are.
That's also a possiblity. Neil, any input on this?

No, I've never met Goldi face to face. The assuption is reasonable, but she was not living near me when the LP idea was first conceived, and hasn't since.

Sure. LP had almost no financial backing to start. 25 bucks for the domain name (1) and some borrowed bandwidth from SAPF and that was it. Without knowing whether the LP venture would succeed, I wanted to go into in conservatively and only expand as clearly warranted. No one had money to throw away. The attraction was FR's huge success in getting people to donate a quarter mil per year. I thought there'd be ample demand for an honest discussion forum to earn a livelihood, but that never happened. I think that requires a forum that caters to either R's or D's, or perhaps Conservatives (self proclaimed) or liberals....one of the mainstream groups. But my aim was for an honest forum that welcomed all views, and that's not a policy that makes many people feel good about donating. Start a pep rally and ban a few of the selected "bad guys" and it's a different story. But no, there was no heavy financial backer for LP. Unless you count me for having spent a good chunk of 6 months writing the software from pretty much scratch, but that would be it.

Honestly, no. When we started I did not know who she was, but she was referred to me by a mutual acquaintence when she was complaining to that person about the atmosphere change in FR in post-911. People were getting banned for objecting to our participation in Afghanistan, and criticism of the WoT (so called) was being met with retribution. The idea then was to create an alternate forum to compete with FR by allowing people to speak their minds. I assumed from her association with our acquaintence and her displeasure with FR that she was very much pro-freedom & pro-liberty. But either I was wrong or she changed as she became more sympathetic toward invading Iraq. She took the position that we needed to defeat the terrorists first before we could work on the restoration of civil freedoms. I think she voted for Bush because he was far less evil than Kerry. Bought into the "wasted vote" syndrome and didn't want to vote 3rd party. As you probably know she's now called for Bush's impeachment for failing to secure the borders. She favors pulling out of Iraq now too. Says our work there is beyond done and it's time to leave. Of course I think her priorities are messed up. Certainly doesn't recognize the emperor attitude being a possible cause of the rest of the world being mad at us. Bottom line: I think she wants to be pro-freedom and believes she is, but that she fails to weigh principles properly. I don't think she's well anchored in what she believes and that she's subject to change her ideas over time, and that emotion plays a big part in what she believes. I assumed she was well anchored when we started out -- had no reason to assume otherwise -- but no, in my opinion, that's not the case.

As for the software, there's no question I own it. What LP is running is a very antiquated version of what's here. We had fundraisers shortly after LP went live. I orchestrated some myself. There's nothing wrong with that. I don't think so, anyway. Running forums does have a cost both with money and labor, and it's reasonable that participants at least help with the money part. Yes, the balance to sought in participation is the grand poobah question in forum management. You really want enough disagreement to keep it interesting, while maintaining some limits to prevent outright and persistent flaming that fills commentary with a 10 to 1 ration of mudslinging vs thoughtful content.
