Word of God: Pastor John Hagee. Alec Russell, Washington August 10, 2006 ANYONE wanting to understand why Israel has unwavering support from the United States should speak to one man. Fiery television evangelist Pastor John Hagee has become the rallying voice for thousands of American Christians who believe Israel is doing God's work in a "war of good versus evil". When he strode on to a stage in Washington last month, he was cheered to the rafters by 3500 prominent evangelicals — as well as by Israel's ambassador to the US, a former Israeli chief of staff and a host of US congressmen from both sides of politics. "After 25 years of hammering away at the truth on national television, millions of people have come to see the truth of the word of God," Mr Hagee said. "There is literally a groundswell of support for Israel in the USA among evangelicals." Twenty-five years ago, Mr Hagee was denounced as a heretic when he urged his fellow preachers to speak out in support of Israel. He also met with huge suspicion from the Jewish community, who thought that anti-Semitism was the standard evangelical belief. When he persevered and hosted a "night to honour Israel" in San Antonio, Texas, there was a bomb threat and panicked Christian followers ran for the door. But today most of America's 60 million Christian evangelicals, who make up about a quarter of the US electorate and form the core support base for George Bush, are behind the President's pro-Israeli position and are pushing for a showdown with Iran. As many as half are Christian Zionists. "What we have done is united all of this evangelical horsepower and said, 'We're not just going to Washington to stand on the grass and sing Amazing Grace. We're going into the halls of Congress to see the senators and to see the congressmen face-to-face and to speak to them about our concerns for Israel'," Mr Hagee said. His claim of political clout is no idle boast. Mr Bush sent a message of support praising him for "spreading the hope of God's love and the universal gift of freedom". They met several times when Mr Bush was governor of Texas. America has long backed Israel against its Arab foes, shored up in Washington by the influential America Israel Public Affairs Committee. It also reflects a cultural affinity that is greater in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001: for most Americans, Israel is on the front line against terror. But Christian Zionism is another crucial factor. It is a booming movement based on the idea that Israel's travails fulfil biblical prophecy. As the head of Christians United for Israel, which links hundreds of US evangelical leaders, Mr Hagee is one of Israel's most influential supporters. Mr Hagee sees a showdown between Islam and the West. "This is a religious war that Islam cannot and must not win," he has said. "The end of the world as we know it is rapidly approaching."

God may indeed be at work in Israel, hardening the hearts of the leaders of that country (as well as this country,) in preparation for sending plagues and destruction against the evildoers. At least that's what Old Testament morality would suggest. I'm not sure the God of the New Testament would be capable of doing such a thing.

He should take a break from waving the Bible in the air and spend the time reading the words of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. He should ask the question, would Jesus drop incendiary chemical weapons on children?

It's been a while since I've read it (not being Christian myself) but I recall a passage where Jesus explains that no man will be able to foretell when His return will take place; like a thief in the night or some such. He spoke of a sinful generation seeking signs; maybe He had Hagee and his crew in mind?
I missed it, which is probably just as well as I would hate to lose my breakfast. These people really do have no shame.
Seeing pastor Hagee Evangelize is a lot like watching Josef Goebbels work his magic. I cannot stand this man. At first I thought he was just a guy who was giving out advice about relationships and marriage, and when he started his tirades on the end of the world, I realized what I was seeing. A False Prophet. All religions should be eliminated for the good of humanity as they are used like tools, and terrorism to get people to do the dumbest and most evil things in the name of their so called Gods.

Religions across the board have always been a tool of the elite to empower themselves, and impose their rules of law. Who do you think works as their direct emissaries? Religious leaders. Every religion on this earth is a false one, as they have been manipulated, and twisted to suit the needs of every elite in the world. That is why there is so much unrest in the world, and so many people killing each other in their respective names of their fake Gods. It's because little men who have tremendous wealth and power, use these true believers to do the deeds that any God fearing man would be ashamed to do. Nobody straps on a bombvest and wipes out innocent people in the name of their god without lies being told to them. Just like God, or Jesus doesn't talk to the political leaders of the world saying they have to nuke the middle east for Jesus. God has bigger fish to fry in the cosmos to be concerned over a piece of dirt in the Middle East. If he doesn't, then he's a very small God indeed.

Jesus isn't coming back the way the bible tells it. Not at all, not a chance, because the Bible has become a joke in our time. I look at the bible and think what a brilliant way to get people to fall in lockstep behind an ideology and a cult of doom. Jesus wasn't about death, destruction and impending doom, his life and teachings were about a hell of a lot more than controls and wealth accumulation. When he comes back, it won't be the way the bible tells you, it will be something far more interesting.

I agree in that what is written about the end times in the Bible is obscure (and obviously meant to be). Jesus did encourage us to stay ready, but of course, He was referring to our spiritual readiness; not "ready" to see how many missiles and bombs we can fire and drop on civilians. And then cheer about it like Pat Robertson.
