A plot to blow up planes in flight from the UK to the US and commit "mass murder on an unimaginable scale" has been disrupted, Scotland Yard has said. It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled in hand luggage on to as many as 10 aircraft.

I'm very suspicious about this whole "gel bomber" affair. Apparently nothing was set to happen today (i.e., they didn't catch anyone trying to get on a plane with bombs, etc). So why the big side show? Why TODAY? Why stopping all the air traffic the way they have? Maybe there was some kind of plot, but I think the real intent here is to cause panic among the masses to justify the Bush/Blair War on Terror. I'm just sick of this hysteria they're always trying to generate.

excellent insight, JT, that hadn't occurred to me. The timing of this "gel bomber" alert (my attempt to name this incident) makes one wonder as nothing actually happened, and it appears they caught these people before anything happened. So the logical question is: why the dog and pony show and why NOW?

Me, we’re entering the biggest ball of shit this country has ever seen. These sobs are NOT going to allow the wheels to fall off their war wagon. NOTHING is beneath them so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to suggest that martial law is but a terrorist attack away. It’s time to consider how we resist as individual sovereign Americans.
