Prophecy on Pope Fulfilled by Eclipses?

A 10th Century Irish bishop - St. Malachy - predicted every pope that would preside over the Catholic Church.

Almost ten centuries ago, Malachy predicted this pope would be noted by an eclipse of the sun.

In an eerie coincidence, John Paul II was the only known pope to be born on the day of a solar eclipse.

But the prophetic link doesn't end there. Pope John Paul II will be buried this Friday during another solar eclipse.

Astronomers say that on Friday, the day of the Pope's funeral, a partial solar eclipse will blot out most of the sun and darken a wide area of the world, from the South Pacific to the Western Hemisphere.

Solar eclipses are not unusual. But what makes this coming Friday's eclipse notable is the fact that there was a near total eclipse of the sun seen across Europe on May 18, 1920, the very day that John Paul II was born in Poland.

Adding fuel to the arcane speculation about these events is the prophecy of St. Malachy.

Malachy was discovered to have left behind a prophetic list of all future popes beginning with Pope Celestine II, whose papacy began in 1143 A.D., up to and including the 112th. The list includes John Paul and just two more popes who will follow him.

In his list of popes, he uses a single line in Latin identifying a characteristic of each pope.

The description applied to the 110th pope on his list - John Paul II - is "De Labore Solis" (Of the Solar Eclipse), which seems to add great weight to the validity of St. Malachy’s chilling prophecy: that the next two popes chosen to succeed John Paul II will be the last popes.

After the reign of the last pope, "Peter the Roman," St. Malachy wrote, Rome will be destroyed.

This part dove-tails with the bible. But the bible does not say anywhere that the world will end after this. That is pure ridiculous balogna. Says that nowhere. It says god will make the world new, that his kingdom will be built here on earth, that he will be here on earth, that the evil ones will all be purged basically from among us. and that many who have died will be raised up and restored. That life will be ever-lasting in this new kingdom of god to be built here on earth. It says the seas will no longer exist. I personally think that may mean 'law of the seas' or mercantile type laws and rule will be eliminated. Regarding this 7 hilled city. Yes Rome is known for having 7 hills. But I believe Washington DC is also known for such. Babylon as headquartered in the US is the new Rome IMHO. It will be our country destroyed completely. Then god will build his kingdom here.

you want to know something even more cool?

You should read George Washington's speech from December 1776 he gave at Valley Forge to his troops. In that speech he said an angel visited him in the night and told him in advance all about american history. About 90% of what washington described then has already come true. And the last part dove-tails exactly with the bible where babylon is destroyed. Washington said that our last great military challenge will be when many many nations from around the world hate our nation so very badly that they send troops here to our country to fight us. In washington's speech the damage to our nation initially in this last terrible war is very over-whelming, that our people rally immediately and that god will raise from the dead many Americans who will fight on our side in this fight and that we will win even this last great war. This dove-tails exactly with what's described in Daniel. In Daniel it says after this horrible attack occurs where the world's greatest nation called Babylon is destroyed nearly completely god will raise from the dead many in that nation and he will immediately begin building his kingdom here on earth.

Our nation is to be sacrificed IMHO just as Jesus was sacrificed. Sacrificed per god's purpose, not per ours'. The bible says history will unfold in this manner as a dramatic lesson to the people of the earth, just as the jesus sacrifice was a dramatic lesson. A new lesson is coming.

The bible does say that the evil ones who rule in this end times through 'Babylon' are empowered by god to do this. We must remember that these evil ones will be dealt with by god himself when judgement occurs which is immediately after this terrible attack that is coming.

I love the idea that our destiny is in God's hands, but after having read "Extrordinary Popular Illusions and the Madness of Crowds" and watched many episodes of Penn & Teller's "Bullshit!", I can't bring myself to sign on.

It still makes for great reading though.

No, I read the speech on FreeRepublic years ago. But I don't have a link. I've searched for it. It's hard to come by. It is in the Smithsonian though.

There's two versions. One was not written down until 1849 and was second hand even. The other transcript was written shortly after the speech and is better IMHO. Newspapers at the time described his speech. Nobody transcribed it as he gave it, he didn't have a text he spoke from.

it is such a cool thing. Because you know at Valley Forge in december 1776 Washington had only 1700 men. There weren't more than 1,000 maybe at very most 2,000 in the entire American army besides these 1700. None of these groups were drawing a paycheck. Their ranks were thinning. Washington's men did not have enough gunpowder for each of them to shoot even one shot. and every day their gunpowder dwindled as they shot game to feed themselves. Our army had been through some bad defeats in 1776 as well. In one battle in NYC we lost well over 500 men - dead.

The english by contrast had over 20,000 well armed well fed well equipped professional soldiers. If the hessian mercenaries had merely known where Washington was holed up, then this main army of ours would've been destroyed and our cause done. Instead Washington found them, attacked at 6 am on dec 26 when the germans were all hung over. he captured a force of 2,000-3,000 germans and all their supplies as well with that little group that only had bayonnets and couldn't even shoot in a real battle. If we hadn't caught them by surprise sleeping and hung over we'd have stood zero chance.

The war was turned around less than 2 weeks after washington's visit from the angel. And then everything the angel said came true.

This is our nation. It is a nation that was made by god (just like all the other nations). But our nation is the greatest of nations that ever was. That is why god is using our nation in this manner. It is god's plan. Read about it, it's in the bible.

Thanks, I may hunt around for it. If I find it I'll let you know. It's fascinating history. And those #s were overwhelming. Plus, there were Native American Indian forces under British command, like at the Battle of Blue Licks, where we lost half our small force. I don't think I'd heard how bad the ammo supplies were before. Amazing odds that we should find encouraging to us even now.

when our soldiers confronted the german soldiers at Trenton NJ after marching 6-8 hours and at 6 am we had 1700-1800 men. And of these only 50 or so could fire bullets. Washington had them outfitted with huge bayonnets. This is what they went to battle with. against what was thought one of the best military forces in the world. and when it was over we had lots of gunpowder and ammunition. and this was only the first thing god did after he sent that angel to speak to Washington in the darkest of hours.

I'm somewhat stunned at all the adoration given to this false prophet.

The stage is set for the Beast. I saw all the little beasties (Bush and company) in that Drudge photo, hands folded in prayer(?), honoring a leader of a false religion. Bush had his pet Condi there, too.

and for the record I don't know next to nothing about this Malachai fellow who lived 900 years ago. I just thought it was a very interesting article. who knows, maybe his predictions are true.

Well, he is saying Christianity is a false religion because all branches thereof stem from the Catholic Church. If the trunk is false, so are the branches.

I wish Protestants would simply cite what it is they object to in the Catholic Church rather than labelling the whole thing as false because in doing so, they invalidate themselves because that is where they got it from.

Anyhow....

I first ran across St. Malachi and his prophecy a few years ago doing some research on Irish History. Thus far, the prophecy has proven itself to be true, but it must be stated that there is nothing in the prophecy that says there will not be an infinite number of Popes between this next one (Glory of the Olive) and Peter The Roman.

Although, it is a little eerie that it has been correct enough to place Popes onto thus far - and in exact sequence, no less.

So, we shall see what happens going forward.

George Washington's Vision of the Future

I do not know whether it is owing to the anxiety of my mind, or what, but this afternoon, as I was sitting at this table engaged in preparing a dispatch, something seemed to disturb me. Looking up, I beheld standing opposite me a singularly beautiful female. So astonished was I, for I had given strict orders not to be disturbed, that it was some moments before I found language to inquire into the cause of her presence.

A second, a third, and even a fourth time did I repeat my question, but received no answer from my mysterious visitor except a slight raising of her eyes. I would have risen, but the riveted gaze of the being before me rendered volition impossible. I assayed once more to address her, but my tongue had become useless, even thought itself had become paralyzed. A new influence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly at my unknown visitor.

Gradually, the surrounding atmosphere seemed as though becoming filled with sensations and luminous. Everything about me seemed to rarefy, the mysterious visitor herself becoming more airy, and yet more distinct to my sight than before. I now began to feel as one dying, or rather to experience the sensations which I have sometimes imagined accompany dissolution. I did not think, I did not reason, I did not move; all were alike impossible. I was only conscious of gazing fixedly, vacantly at my companion.

Presently I heard a voice saying, "Son of the Republic, look and learn," while at the same time my visitor extended her arm eastwardly. I now beheld a heavy white vapor at some distance rising fold upon fold. This gradually dissipated, and I looked upon a strange scene. Before me lay spread out in one vast plain all the countries of the world. I saw rolling and tossing between Europe and America the billows of the Atlantic, and between Asia and America lay the Pacific. "Son of the Republic," said the same mysterious voice as before, "Look and learn."

At that moment I beheld a dark, shadowy being floating in mid-air between Europe and America, dipping water out of the ocean in the hollow of each hand. He sprinkled some upon America with his right hand, while with his left hand he cast some on Europe. Immediately a dark cloud raised from these countries and joined in mid-ocean. For a while it remained stationary, and then moved slowly westward, until it enveloped America in its murky folds. Sharp flashes of lightning passed through it at intervals, and I heard the smothered groans and cries of the American people.

A second time the angel dipped water from the ocean, and sprinkled it out as before. The dark cloud was then drawn back to the ocean, in whose heaving billows it sank from view. A third time I heard the mysterious voice saying, "Son of the Republic, look and learn." I cast my eyes upon America and beheld villages and towns and cities springing up one after another until the whole land from the Atlantic to the Pacific was dotted with them. Again I heard the mysterious voice say, "Son of the Republic, the end of the century cometh, look and learn."

At this the dark, shadowy angel turned his face southward, and from Africa I saw an ill-omened specter approach our land. It flitted slowly over every town and city. The inhabitants presently set themselves in battle array against each other. As I continued looking, I saw a bright angel, on whose brow rested a crown of light, on which was traced the word "Union," bearing the American flag, which he placed between the divided nation, and said, "Remember ye are brethren." Instantly the inhabitants, casting from them their weapons, became friends once more and united around the National Standard.

And again I heard the mysterious voice saying, "Son of the Republic, look and learn." At this the dark, shadowy angel placed a trumpet to his mouth and blew three distinct blasts; and taking water from the ocean, he sprinkled it upon Europe, Asia, and Africa. Then my eyes beheld a fearful scene: from each of these countries arose thick, black clouds that were joined into one, and throughout this mass there gleamed a dark red light by which I saw hordes of armed men, who, moving with the cloud, marched by land and sailed by sea to America, which country was enveloped in the volume of the cloud.

And I dimly saw these vast armies devastate the whole country and burn the villages, towns, and cities that I beheld were springing up. As my ears listened to the thundering of the cannon, clashing of swords, and the shouts and cries of millions in mortal combat, I heard again the mysterious voice saying, "Son of the Republic, look and learn." When the voice had ceased, the dark, shadowy angel placed his trumpet once more to his mouth and blew a long and fearful blast.

Instantly a light as of a thousand suns shone down from above me, and pierced and broke into fragments the dark cloud which enveloped America. At the same moment the angel, upon whose head still shone the word UNION, and who bore our national flag in one hand and a sword in the other, descended from the heavens, attended by legions of white spirits. These immediately joined the inhabitants of America, who I perceived were well nigh overcome, but who immediately taking courage again, closed up their broken ranks and renewed the battle.

Again, amid the fearful noise of the conflict, I heard the mysterious voice saying, "Son of the Republic, look and learn." As the voice ceased, the shadowy angel for the last time dipped water from the ocean and sprinkled it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious. Then once more I beheld the villages, towns, and cities springing up where I had seen them before, while the bright angel, planting the azure standard he had brought in the midst of them, cried with a loud voice, "While the stars remain, and the heavens send down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Union last." And taking from his brow the crown on which was blazoned the word "Union," he placed it upon the Standard, while the people, kneeling down, said, "Amen."

The scene instantly began to fade and dissolve, and I at last saw nothing but the rising, curling vapor I at first beheld. This also disappearing, I found myself once more gazing upon the mysterious visitor, who, in the same voice I had heard before, said, "Son of the Republic, what you have seen is thus interpreted: Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful is the third, passing which the whole world united shall not prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land, and the Union." With these words the vision vanished, and I started from my seat, and felt that I had seen a vision wherein had been shown me the birth, progress, and destiny of the United States.

:) I have been to alot of prophecy sites. I knew I had read the George Washington one before, I just had to find out which site it was on. I really like the site it's linked to. It's got every prophecy from group or individual you can imagine. Mother Shiptons prophecies are pretty neat too.

Have you ever heard of Mother Shipton's prophecies?

Mother Shipton was born Ursula Sontheil in 1488 in a cave beside the river Nidd in North Yorkshire, England. Close by was an ancient well with supposeded mystical powers. Her poems are interesting as they speak of submarines, the first world war, air combat, woman's sufferage, telecommunications and many other modern things.

Here's one version of her prophecy:

MOTHER SHIPTON PROPHECIES

And now a word, in uncouth rhyme Of what shall be in future time

Then upside down the world shall be And gold found at the root of tree All England's sons that plough the land Shall oft be seen with Book in hand The poor shall now great wisdom know Great houses stand in farflung vale All covered o'er with snow and hail

A carriage without horse will go Disaster fill the world with woe. In London, Primrose Hill shall be In centre hold a Bishop's See

Around the world men's thoughts will fly Quick as the twinkling of an eye. And water shall great wonders do How strange. And yet it shall come true.

Through towering hills proud men shall ride No horse or ass move by his side. Beneath the water, men shall walk Shall ride, shall sleep, shall even talk. And in the air men shall be seen In white and black and even green

A great man then, shall come and go For prophecy declares it so.

In water, iron, then shall float As easy as a wooden boat Gold shall be seen in stream and stone In land that is yet unknown.

Three rulers in succession be Each springs from different dynasty. Then when the fiercest strife is done England and France shall be as one.

In nineteen hundred and twenty six Build houses light of straw and sticks. For then shall mighty wars be planned And fire and sword shall sweep the land.

For those who live the century through In fear and trembling this shall do. Flee to the mountains and the dens To bog and forest and wild fens.

For storms will rage and oceans roar When Gabriel stands on sea and shore And as he blows his wondrous horn Old worlds die and new be born.

A fiery dragon will cross the sky Six times before this earth shall die Mankind will tremble and frightened be for the sixth heralds in this prophecy.

For seven days and seven nights Man will watch this awesome sight. The tides will rise beyond their ken To bite away the shores and then The mountains will begin to roar And earthquakes split the plain to shore.

And flooding waters, rushing in Will flood the lands with such a din That mankind cowers in muddy fen And snarls about his fellow men.

His masked smile - his false grandeur, Will serve the Gods their anger stir. And they will send the Dragon back To light the sky - his tail will crack Upon the earth and rend the earth And man shall flee, King, Lord, and serf.

But slowly they are routed out To seek diminishing water spout And men will die of thirst before The oceans rise to mount the shore.

And lands will crack and rend anew You think it strange. It will come true.

And in some far off distant land Some men - oh such a tiny band Will have to leave their solid mount And span the earth, those few to count, Who survives this (unreadable) and then Begin the human race again.

But not on land already there But on ocean beds, stark, dry and bare Not every soul on Earth will die As the Dragons tail goes sweeping by.

Not every land on earth will sink But these will wallow in stench and stink Of rotting bodies of beast and man Of vegetation crisped on land.

But the land that rises from the sea Will be dry and clean and soft and free Of mankinds dirt and therefore be The source of man's new dynasty.

And those that live will ever fear The dragons tail for many year But time erases memory You think it strange. But it will be.

And before the race is built anew A silver serpent comes to view And spew out men of like unknown To mingle with the earth now grown Cold from its heat and these men can Enlighten the minds of future man.

To intermingle and show them how To live and love and thus endow The children with the second sight. A natural thing so that they might Grow graceful, humble and when they do The Golden Age will start anew.

The dragon's tail is but a sign For mankind's fall and man's decline. And before this prophecy is done I shall be burned at the stake, at one My body singed and my soul set free You think I utter blasphemy You're wrong. These things have come to me This prophecy will come to be.

Well, I can agree with you about the little beasties, but not about Catholicism. The basic doctrine is solid. As a Baptist, I don't understand all the traditions, but read what John (Gospel) describes as a false religion, and read Catholic doctrine. It's been awhile since I studied this, John's important points are: that Jesus is God Incarnate, the virgin birth, and the existence of the Holy Spirit. I think that takes out the Jehovah Witnesses and the Mormons; they don't believe in The Trinity and they don't believe Christ is God Incarnate. The major Protestant denominations and the Catholic Church all believe these things.

That doesn't mean that every pope was a sterling example. Nor is every pastor. Some are evil and twisted, others are wonderful and good. This last one seemed to have a real heart for the common man.

Christianity is a false religion?

Catholicism is. It's not Biblical Christianity.

R.C.ism states the only way a person can get saved is through the Roman Catholic church. This unscriptural and religious tyranny as well, since Jesus clearly stated He was the way the truth and the light and no man comes unto God except thru Him.

The R.C. church does not believe that. The R.C. church was also against common man having a copy of the Bible in his own language.

Their arguments were not over basic Christian beliefs, like whether Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, God Incarnate. Or the belief in the Holy Trinity. Ask other groups running around with Bibles these questions, and see what answers you get from them. Ask a Jehovah Witness, ask a Mormon.

Europe and the UK were largely illiterate until the moveable type printing press made books more available. The Catholic Church does not discourage reading the Bible today. I suspect that some of their traditions stem from the centuries of teaching to illiterate masses. The Gutenberg Bible, the Renaissance and the Reformation ran together, bringing some enlightenment to all.

That's pretty basic to Christian theology.

It is the blurred vision compromise you and the majority of sheeple possess, which will lead this world into the age of the Anti-Christ and the False Prophet.

No Catholic would argue against Jesus being the Way. The Catholic Church, in its duties as shepherding the people, may overstep the line from time to time. I would urge you to look to the basic tenets we hold in common, rather than nitpick your way back to the 30 Years War. Christendom has much bigger problems today.

I suggest you read a history book then. The canon of the Bible wasn't assembled by the Catholic Church until around 400AD and the Protestant Bible didn't take its current form until around 1650AD or so.

Besides, what do you think Christians did before there was a book to read? There were around 400 years before there was an official canon.

Biblical Christianity is a new thing anyhow. It didn't exist until after the Reformation.

False. There are many fine examples of German Bibles from before 900AD.

Check out Catholic Answers as they have most of this there in a very easy-to-understand layout that dispells most Protestant myths.

Most Evangelical preachers will even admit in their writings that this old canard is just a nasty rumor.

The Catholic Church opposes poor translations, not the Bible itself.

False. JPII refuted that just recently multiple times in public no less, to give a recent example.

Basic Catholic doctrine is that salvation is by grace alone.
