LOS ANGELES - Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney told the California GOP convention Saturday the United States should encourage foreigners with skills to immigrate, while discouraging those who come here illegally and without skills.

“It is wrong for us to build an absolute concrete wall against those with skills and enterprise,” he said, referring to foreign students who come here for advanced study, “and have a wide open door for people with no education and no skills.”

His remarks were greeted with enthusiastic applause from this conservative crowd, for whom illegal immigration is a hot issue. Romney, a Republican governor in a Democratic state, is exploring a presidential run in 2008. California, with its reservoir of campaign cash, is a key stop along campaign trails.

Romney, a social conservative, also criticized gay marriage, saying, “every child deserves a mother and a father.” He praised President Bush’s aggressive foreign and military policies, and said the nation should wean itself from oil.

“This country is using too much oil,” he said, adding that billions of dollars were being poured “down black holes in countries who don’t like us.”

He said improving education and investing in technology was the way to keep America competitive as Asian economies grow.

What concrete wall?! Over 65K a year of L1, H1B foreign visa workers!

Scratch Romney off the Presidential list. I have already taken off all members of the CFR and the Bilderberg Society. These include Kerry, Gore, Edwards, Hillary, and Governor Mark Warner. Mayor Giuliani of NYC who covered up 911 and should be in prison never was on my Presidential list. But he is on my list of traitors.

What concrete wall?! Over 65K a year of L1, H1B foreign visa workers!

Back when I was doing the Janitorial thing (1990s), many of the Doctors where I worked where unhappy with the "forced retirement" of many of their co-workers.

"What do you mean you don't want to do twice the work at half the pay? Ingrate! We'll show you."

Not long after I noticed more and more applicants with names like "Dr. Derka Derka" showing up on the CEOs desk.

Ah, the 1990s, where bosses could look workers in the eye (or shit in their face) and tell them they were lucky to be employed at all.

The American Medical Association deliberately limits the # of med students, encourages foreign doctors and basically insured that we would be seeing Dr. Derka Derka.

Hey Gang.......we really do need some sort of little emblem that a thread initiator can put up by the title or something on these threads where the bullshit is so deep, you need to be wearing hipboots.

I realize this is from an asshole from back east.......but really.

I can attest to the fact that californicate really doesn't need more 'skilled' immigrants. They may well need dedicated skilled workers REGARDLESS of whether they are immigrants or not.

My mother spent 2 weeks in a convalescent/therapeutic hospital recovering from a bad car wreck recently. Virtually every single worker there was foreign-- with many from the Philipines. It was damned near impossible to understand them when I, and everyone else that tried, called to either talk to my mother (there's about 1300 miles between here and there) or to the nursing staff to see how she was doing.

She finally after 2 weeks told them she was getting out of that place if she had to crawl out; that they were driving her nuts. They partied during the night, would act like they couldn't understand what you were saying by day, would refuse bathroom privileges during certain hours, and didn't even bother to have washcloths!

There was finally a brow-beaten guy assistant that got a regular towel and cut it into 6 squares so she'd be able to wash her face! He told her they dont' ever order washcloths.

And they were trying to tell her she couldn't leave.

And they were weird with meds, too. My Mom has a very sensitive stomach and system and there are actually very few medicines she can take even when she's not had a wreck. She just got over a bad case of ulcers before the wreck. And her internist was adamant about selective use of ANY meds. He worked with the cardiologist and her regular doctor over this.

At the C/H, they were giving her "X" (can't think of othe damned name now) and she kept telling them she couldn't take that because it makes her sick and they kept saying that was all the doctor would let her have! Of course, she found out later this wasn't so--but that didn't stop these lazy assholes!

And she knows for a fact that they take whatever you say as however they want to write it. FOr instance, say she can't eat eggs (allergic, or nauseating or whatever the reason). They serve eggs for breakfast and she says she' can't eat eggs, though she loves them, because of stomach problems. They write down on the chart that she doesn't want to eat their eggs! "Want" has nothing to do with it--throwing up does!

So the 'dear' asshole governor of the Big Dig state should get his ass back there and deal with problems that are in his purview.
