The past few days (actually somewhat longer than that), I've been mulling over the immigration mess and the upcoming elections, along with a few other problem areas in our nation. So, I thought I'd toss out a couple of concerns and see what your opinions are.

A. First off, I doubt there is anyone who wants a change in party majorityship/minorityship than I. I want so badly for the gopers to get creamed for the POS job they've been doing after having been given the 'keys to the kingdom'!

That said, consider this: The senate is less likely to change hands than the house, IMO. The senate recently passed a frickin amnesty/immigration nightmare of a bill. It is so far out of whack with the house passed version; therefore they have to go to conference. Technically, it is written in their rulebooks that confernce committees can't come up with new crap for the proposed bill, but they do it all the time.

So, suppose the house changes over to the demos. What do you suspect will happen? From what I read, the demos are eager for such a bill as the senate passed...they apparently believe all the illegals will 'vote' for them.

I guess I'm just still trying to figure out why one of my senators, craig, by name, stupid by characterization, would vote for this damnable bill. And most interestingly a) note that he is near the top ranks of goper leadership in the senate and b) he makes the asinine comment in his email response to my concerns and as a way to 'justify' his voting for it, essentially 'after all, we all know it won't pass as is because of the house version is so different'.

B. Secondly--I along with many others dont' believe voting is anything beyond window dressing. And with that said, I'd like to ask:

"So, if voting were in fact a real selection process and meaningful, how would you go about voting in the fall?"

We have the war hawks.......and they're from both parties, so I don't see any changes there.

We have the illegal alien lovers....and they're from both parties, though they are lying thru their teeth in backpedaling, etc.

What third party candidate have the changes of making inroads==this, of course, predicated on their ability to jump thru all the hoops the two-headed monster party set up in election laws and regs? Face it, Ron Paul is just about the lone voice calling for sanity of 535 congresscowards. What would even a dozen third party candidates do for the process? I guarantee they would be given shit committee assignments.

C. Thirdly--suppose there is a major shakeup come November, what do you believe the lame duck gopers would do?

I would see them changing senate rules to where they kill the cloture vote rule, and then approve any and ever single appointment the liar in chief has put forth.

I see them putting up the senate's version of the illegal alien/amnesty bill and passing it, so the liar in chief can sign it into law.

I see a real probability of an attack on Iran, and the 'need' for the draft reinstatement.

It's all about revenge now, rather than policy, because on issues like illegal immigration and globalization, both parties do the bidding of their corporate masters.

As for the danger of a lame-duck congress, it was a lame-duck congress that passed WTO in 1994, with a lot of "yes" votes from defeated congressmen.

I think, screw it, let it happen, as fast as possible.

I want the assholes in DC to go hog wild and totally destroy the republic and get it over with. I want full blown tyranny and I want it now. That's their intention and there is no way to stop it, so lets get it over with.

I agree -- nothing changes (unless continued degeneration counts as "change") without a general collapse.

I don't think a regime is ever overthrown unless a large majority are angry enough to fight, or unless there's a substantial minority who are, and the regime is already weakened by other factors. I often feel really bad about the fact that I'm not putting my butt on the line to try to get rid of the Imperial regime here, but I keep coming back to the same thing: it's hopeless as long as the pee-pul are mesmerized by "Monday Night Football" and "American Idol." Unless most people are already "mad as hell," trying to overthrow DC leads the few overthrow-ers directly to Waco, and nowhere else.

Really, about the happiest outcome I could imagine is the "soft collapse" that happens economically. The one thing that just isn't going away, as far as I can tell, is that the Empire is stone-cold broke. Our supervisors are used to buying some, intimidating some, and killing off others -- but it all takes money. Without bales and bales of cash, a Dick(head) Cheney loses his derived dreadfulness and becomes simply irrelevant. And, with the Imperial Seat a deindustrialized basket case, what will our supervisors do for money? Printing it won't help, and borrowing only works until all those Asian bankers decide that it's no longer in their interest to lend to Uncle Murder. No matter which way it goes, it's gonna be a rough ride.

I'll sit home and have a drink or two election night...let other delusional voters send the incumbents back to the Washington party circuit. I agree with you rowdee - completely.

My only choice on election day is do I remain sober or not. that is the only choice.

seriously, I'll vote third party or write-in a third-party name. but we normally only have the libertarians on the ballot where I live, so that's who I'll vote for. and they'll get 1%, the voting machines won't let em get any more.

and whoever is elected the repubs or the dems - they will screw us either way. that's why it might be a good thing to not be sober on that night and listen to whatever drama they have on tv.

but my sober advice is - turn off the tv - don't be troubled by all this stuff. find other interestes - and pursue them.

the 'need' for the draft reinstatement.

That'll end the wars on the spot. Some unknown kid from some hick town who gets killed, people don't pay any attention. Try to draft their kids, though, and watch the uproar.

"Benjamin Franklin was shown the new American constitution, and he said, 'I don't like it, but I will vote for it because we need something right now. But this constitution in time will fail, as all such efforts do. And it will fail because of the corruption of the people, in a general sense.' And that is what it has come to now, exactly as Franklin predicted." -- Gore Vidal

I don't see you as being one to make this a downer, Dak.

I've been paying more and more attention since 1986, when I ran for office........it doesn't get better, just worse.....each and every time.

As it regards third parties, I recall listing to cspan not long after moving over here and a committee meeting relative to elections. Had a panel of gopers, and then a panel of demos, and then a panel of 'all others'. The 'all others' were lamenting the hoops and hurdles the gopers and demos had enacted at fed and state levels making it virtually impossible for any sort of 3rd party to make inroads. They invariable spend most of their money on lawyers and trying to get enough signatures to get on the ballot.

Don't you just know the hearts of those gopers and demos were just bleeding for these 'all others'! NOT! They're the ones making the friggin rules and regs to preclude others and to assure either head A or head B gets the prize.

I haven't felt good about voting for years and years.

I've been in the same boat.

and I think we feel discouraged from voting by design. in 1988 george hw bush told very prominent lies during the campaign (read my lips). in 1992 bill clinton told very prominent lies when he turned to bush in a big debate and ridiculed him for being in bed with the chinese, and then clinton went and got in bed with chinese. and in 2000 I remember in the debates gw bush saying strongly he believed in school choice, but then he doubled funding on dept of education and further strengthened the federal bureaucracy's hold on education, he also said his #1 priority in foreign policy would be to be humble - but he has been the opposite. I think it is by design - to discourage us.

I think I'm also like you though I'd like to see the republicans beat bad this year. I just don't see any good coming from the demos though.

I'll go vote this time so I can vote for a dem senate candidate who wants to cut payroll taxes by 25%. that is worth voting for, but the guy is probably pro-war. If he's pro-war I won't vote for him.

I guess I'm just still trying to figure out why one of my senators, craig, by name, stupid by characterization, would vote for this damnable bill.

Answer here.

Secondly--I along with many others dont' believe voting is anything beyond window dressing.

In a highly heterogenous society it is possible for every measure to be passed by majority vote, and yet for everyone to find themselves in the minority on a majority of issues.

This makes certain techniques of tyranny possible.

"Will of the People" presupposes that there is in fact a people, with a common language, religion, culture, and race. It is an oxymoron in a multiracial/multiethnic empire, which is what the United States has become.

"So, if voting were in fact a real selection process and meaningful, how would you go about voting in the fall?"

For the whitest guy available, paying attention to surnames.

What third party candidate have the changes of making inroads==this, of course, predicated on their ability to jump thru all the hoops the two-headed monster party set up in election laws and regs?

Nick Griffin, British National Party.

C. Thirdly--suppose there is a major shakeup come November, what do you believe the lame duck gopers would do?

Enjoy a junket in the Carribean with Ted Kennedy. Enjoy their pensions. Perhaps get a cushy job in consulting or academia.

I see a real probability of an attack on Iran, and the 'need' for the draft reinstatement.

They might try a draft, but it would be disastrous. It is precisely the small (relatively) self-selected nature of it that makes the military easy to use.
