WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The description of Osama bin Laden on the FBI's "Most Wanted" list omits his most notorious act, masterminding the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. Bin Laden has boasted of his role in the attacks but he has not been charged with them. The FBI traditionally only mentions crimes when there has been an indictment, The Washington Post reports.
The description does mention allegations that bin Laden orchestrated the bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Bin Laden faces federal charges for those attacks.
But the Post said that leaving out the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks has fueled conspiracy theories from the small group of people who believe that the U.S. government was involved.
"There's no mystery here," FBI spokesman Rex Tomb said. "They could add 9/11 on there, but they have not because they don't need to at this point. ... There is a logic to it."
