I am not a Republican. I am not a Bush Bot. I have argued against Republican statism, Bush diplomacy, the Supreme Court nominations, the Commerce Clause decision, The Patriot Act, the WOT, the WOD, and the culture wars of the Christian right. I have never been accused of being a troll or zotted. Free Republic is not a Republican forum. It is a Conservative forum and there are just as many Libertarian Conservatives as Republicans on Free Republic. There are even a few bleeding heart Liberals who have been posting there for years. No other political forum has the diversity that Free Republic has. Those who complain of being zotted or branded trolls are almost always guilty of racism or personal attacks on others. Anti-semitic white power types get zotted immediately, those with legitimate complaints about the government of Israel do not. If Free Republic only allowed those who toed the NEOCON line they would have zotted mugs99 years ago! *****A great source of news and support, I first found Free Republic about 7 years ago. About the same time, I found DU. I was absolutely disgusted with the hatred on DU but found a lot of interesting people on Free Republic. During the time of the last shuttle disaster, FR posters were on top of the news even breaking stories. It is not only political but very interesting stories about life in general. When we lost a child, they were there with their support, love and prayers. People from all around the world were saying prayers for us. The same support was there when I lost a sibling and a spouse. When CBS tried to pass off a fake story as truth, a poster on Free Republic was the one who found the untruth of the story. It is time to hold the news media accountable for their stories. When they tell an outright lie, then that needs to be told to the people of this country. If you want another source for news, then Free Republic is the place to be. *Jonestown "Republic", A previous rater wrote "ANYONE with ANY viewpoint can participate". While technically correct, the rater conveniently leaves out the fact that if you disagree with Israel, George W. Bush and the Republican party in that order, the odds are heavily in favor of you being banned after one post. So much for debate on this cyber police state. Instead, you can expect ad hominen attacks and stupid silliness masquerading as serious argument. Nonetheless, I can recommend it in a limited way. For researchers who wish to understand group think, collectivism and "the cult of personality" (built around Jim Robinson, the owner and Bush) this site and "Democratic underground" are two of the best. If a few names are changed fair minded person can see there is no difference in the conduct and thinking of these two bulletin boards. *"Free" Republic is a disgrace to conservatism. FR losing influence and relevance, I joined FR in early 1998. At that time the membership was comprised of more committed and intelligent conservatives who were very active both online and in real life. After a while we had active chapters in nearly every state. I had gotten to know and became friendly with many FReepers. It has gone downhill terribly over the last few years. For example, recently Jim Robinson raised several thousand dollars from the members for some protest having to do with GWB's judicial nominees, only around 2 dozen or so people show up and they were basically ignored by the press. Rather sad considering that not too long ago a local FR chapter could get 5 times that many people with little notice and get vastly more press coverage - no fundraising required. FR has become a neocon propaganda site where you better be 100% pro-Bush, pro GOP platform (if anyone can figure that out anymore) and pro-Israel. Many very loyal long-time members have been scared off or banned for not adopting the proper group think. Although I was once a monthly donor, knowning what I know now, I would NOT donate a single penny to FR. It's an LLC entity with no transparency whatsoever, and nobody knows where the money comes from or where it goes. They collect over a quarter million a year yet never once to my knowledge has Mr. Robinson shown anyone any type of money trail. It's his big secret. Ever wonder why FR slowing keeps becoming less influential Jim? I wish there was a 0 star!, First, let me say that I am a moderate conservative. I joined FR in the late 1990s. I rarely posted but did enjoy the news articles and pictures and videos. I felt that some of the Freepers were doing great work in challenging liberal ideology. However, as an educator, the censorship disturbed me, and I don't just mean censorship of liberals who dared to post there. I mean the censorship of ANYONE who did not tow the complete line with the views expressed there. After nearly 5 years, I made what I believe was my second ever post, informing the forum that I had come across a website posting that Freepers were paid to spam other sites. I gave a link and posted the copied post. I felt some of the Freepers might find it interesting and want to comment on this ridiculous statement. To my surprise, the next time I logged in and tried to post, I got a message that my posting privileges had been revoked...reason...zot. I had no warning, no e-mail, nothing. And worse, I didn't know what zot meant! Since then, I have learned it was something about spamming. Well color me silly. This kind of censorship, by those who wave the freedom of speech flag, is disturbing. I post on several other conservative forums and there are rules, as well there should be. But there is also tolerance and at least a warning system. I don't recommend Free Republic to any conservative who cares to engage in logical debate or who has not at one time thought outside the box. It just is not tolerated there. Unable to be independent and objective, it became a shill for the discredited globalist Republican party. You can't even call it purely conservative because as a shill for the Republican party, Free Republic and owner Jim Robinson are able to excuse, absolve and exempt the GOP and it's leaders of any charge or criticism. There is nothing lonelier or as pathetic as a loyal Republican who's been banned from Free Republic for insisting that the United States secure it's borders and win it's wars! Along comes Liberty Post. No censorship. No water to carry for either discredited Democrat or Republican political parties. Liberty Post has suffered growing pains along the way and is still a little slow but it's come a long way baby. All the liberty and 1st amendment loving peoples posting articles, information and discussion love Owner/Operator Goldi Lox. She has worked hard to manage her endeavor and the results show. Liberty Post is easy to use and I like the way it's displayed. It has cool features like pinging and offenders can easily be added to a "bozo list". I wish it had a chat room but I guess that's next. Having Liberty Post and Free Republic is like having your own daily CIA briefing. Sure, some of it is garbage and disinformation but hey, that's half the fun--you have to be the judge! I found out that NORAD and USAF Space Command had gone to a heightened alert status from a local news source in Colorado Springs a day before the July 4th North Korean Missile launches. Pretty neat huh? All this information available being posted from all over the world let's you be the Intel analyst! This as "the world burns"! Not censored, Liberty Post is one of the few political sites on the net that does not censor posters. It is not liberal, conservative, or non-biased. It IS ALL OF THEM at once. It is free speech on the net and it is wonderful. Don't let the other reviews turn you off. Some people hold grudges and those grudges can be seen in their reviews. You can post just about whatever viewpoint you want on Liberty Post. Yes, Nazis sometimes post (and get beatup by the other posters), kooks (9/11 conspiracy theorists) post, liberals post, conservatives post, Christians post, athiests post, etc. You get the idea. *Palo Verde is the Woman for Me, All I think about is palo. When I fall asleep at night it's with dreams of her beside me. When I wake in the morning her name is the first thing on my mind. I can't get up the courage to ask her out, though. God, I love that woman. *****Ignore Badeye And You Will Enjoy It, It's one of the very few mature discussion forum on the Internet where just about anything is tolerated. You will find one or 2 primadonnas trying to grab everyone's attention but it's easy to 'bozo' them - meaning you will never see what they write again - and you will be able to participate in interesting discussions. Fun political discussion, I joined LP a few months ago and have really enjoyed it. The discussion is fun and reasoned, the posters varied and largely thoughtful and intelligent, and their is no fear of censorship. Also, the site has a bozo filter so you can ignore posters who are bothering you or "trolling". I read all the reviews, and I think those who gave the site a bad review and said it's about kooky tin-foil hatters must have visited a different site than I have been reading!
