Title: Madrid bans too-thin models from catwalk

MADRID (AFP) - Excessively skinny fashion models will be barred from a major Madrid fashion show later this month for fear they could send the wrong message to young Spanish girls, local media reported.

Madrid's regional government, which is co-financing the Pasarela Cibeles, has vetoed around a third of the models who took part in last year's show because they weigh too little.

The authorities collaborated with a Spanish health organisation to come up with a minumum body mass -- a height-weight ratio -- of 18 for the models.

Spanish daily ABC said it was the first time such restrictions had been imposed on a fashion show, although a recent wedding dress exhibition in Barcelona banned fashion models who took a dress size below 38 (British size 10, US size eight).

Several models at last year's show provoked a row when they claimed their careers would be under threat if they put on weight.

Organisers said they wanted to "help ensure public opinion does not associate fashion, and fashion shows in particular, with an increase in anorexia, a disease which, along with bulimia, is considered ... as a mental and behavioural problem".

The event will take place on September 18-22.

I don't mind the skinny girls at all. The problem I find is it's sort of like lying on a fence rail. ROTFLOL!

While I in no way agree that it is the government's place to decide these issues and that this is wholly preposterous- I have never felt fashion models were attractive in the slightest precisely because they look freakishly thin.

If I had to theorize on why it seems to be a prerequisite for fashion models to be thin to the point of appearing unhealthy- I half suspect it is because the fashion industry is controlled by homosexuals who have a warped vision of female beauty and perhaps even a deep seeded hatred of women and they delight in torturing them by demanding such unhealthy and dangerous weights.

Well, you wanted an example of what makes one "American." Here you are. The whole negative cloth sizes, barf after every meal, everone whose weight is past the double digits is an obese tub of lard trend is a purely US invention. I've spoken to Frenchmen, Italians, Russians, and Mexicans and they all think we're crazy when it comes to weight.

I mean a "minumum body mass" requirment? An American doctor would rather eat a gun that dare suggest that a little extra weight is healthy.

You are exactly right. Homosexuals like prepubescent boys, so, since there are so many of them in the fashion industry, they try to make female models look like boys.

The problem isn't heterosexual men. It's poofters.

Maybe among the upper middle class and some segments of the middle class in this country weight loss is an obsession- everyone certainly talks about it constantly- diet fads, diet foods, pills, miracle exercise routines- tapes- the weight loss industry in America has gotta be several dozen billion a year at least. But yet- travel to Europe and compare and contrast. Americans ARE fat tubs of goo in comparison. And it is not like Europeans are really thin- they are normal sized. I spent a few months in Germany and Switzerland last year and I had to LOOK HARD to find a fat person- old, middle age, young- I think I saw one old fat lady once. Come home to merica - and it is shambling mounds of fat goo everywhere! I am not talking about just a few pounds overweight and a little chin fat- I am talking- have trouble walking sorta fat. I am talking teenager girls who are 30 or 40 pounds overweight type of fat. You just don't see that in the rest of the world.

I'll second that in its entirity.

As for the reason, I would only presume money to be the motive. If they thought medium or fat women doing a show would have a bigger monetary impact, I think they'd do it. Whether thin women are better for sales, who knows? But it's probably women who are watching the shows the most and maybe it's the popular obsession of women with their weight that makes thin models make a better impression.

Our industrial food complex is to blame. Read a health site recently of a guy who struggled to lose weight. Started at 280, and was able to drop to 260 but no more. Long story short, he found success when he learned that his body had toxins in it and was storing it in fat as a defensive measure. Claims his body wouldn't let him lose weight for it's own good. Once he started physical detox, he claims the weight came off steadily and easily and without starving.

In Ecuador, in the coastal areas, obese people are reasonably rare but "chubby" people are common. I think it's because rice and beans are a major staple with very few veggies & comparitively little meat thrown in. In the mountains it's a bit more balanced a diet and I think the people are generally better off weight-wise.

"You are exactly right. Homosexuals like prepubescent boys, so, since there are so many of them in the fashion industry, they try to make female models look like boys."

Pedophiles like kids, homosexuals like same sex partners; the two groups are nowhere the same. Pedophiles are predators who are intimidated by the thought of sex with peers, homosexuals are sexually imprinted with erotic desire for members of the same gender.

Very careful and well done research shows homosexuals to be same and normal and only different in orientation toward the gender that erotically arouses them. Pedophiles are predators to whom the gender of the young victim means little, and the opportunity to exploit them as prey means everything.

Homosexuals live normal and productive lives, pedophiles are very dysfunctional and never form normal relationships with peers sexually.

As I gave up the booze a couple years back I have come to appreciate food far more than I did. Not quantity- but quality. I eat far better than I did while sucking down the scotch and bourbon. I can really taste the difference between organically grown produce and free range chicken and naturally raised beef for example. I mean- night and day. I am not some freak who thinks that pesticides or chemical fertilizers are evil or anything like that- I realize that they increase yields on less land and so on and so on . . . but from a simple taste perspective- the natural stuff is just far superior. More expensive yes- but better in every way. Maybe the chemical and pesticide grown carrot "looks" better- as in bigger - but it doesn't have half the taste of an organic carrot. I find that to be true across the board. The non natural grown food and meats- look bigger and better- but taste like shit. The best orange I ever had in my life was from an organic farm in Florida that looked smaller and not as "orange"- but packed with taste- whereas your typical chemically produced orange the size of a grapefruit- seems to be all water with a hint of orange flavoring.

I can't eat the crap I used to like frozen foods and microwave meals. I get sick just smelling such crap.

If we can't grow our own, organic is the way to go. And they're trying to dilute what is considered "organic."

Not a raisin fan. Off topic- I grew up hating rice. Never liked rice at all. Then I got a Japanese sister in law and she buys only Japanese rice. Night and day between American grown rice and Japanese rice. Its like two different foods entirely. I won't eat any domestic rice. Love the Japanese stuff.

Jasmine rice. You should try basmati, the type they use in India. Costs 3 times as much as domestic long grain, but I buy it anyway. The best, IMO. It has a delightful aroma. It's also my daughter's favorite.

Yeah- I appreciate a Wendy's Double cheeseburger now and again when I am running around on a Saturday doing errands and such- but generally I try to eat well. One thing that has forced me to do this- is I got rid of my microwave oven and I don't buy anything "ready to eat" but breakfast cereal or canned tuna or sardines. I figure if I am truly hungry I can cook it. If I am not motivated enough to cook something or take the time to make a tuna salad sandwich- I am not really hungry.

Sardines are about the only thing I eat out of a can routinely.

Hehe, just goes to show we can share an opinion but differ in taste. I buy lots of canned fish: pink salmon, mackerel, sardines. But only for the cats. The only canned fish I care to eat is tuna, and that rarely.

So we differ in how we fall short of the good upon which we've agreed. But I definitely do agree that healthy foods taste much better. My work is physically demanding, and I notice when I've been eating too much fast food. It takes a toll on both my mental and physical well-being.

Completely agree...my wife makes salsa for many of our friends with roma tomatoes from our own garden. Her sister wanted some salsa for her birthday, but we had run out of romas. We purchased some from the neighborhood chain store, and they were awful...taste reminiscent of a cardboard box. Compared to organic or home-grown; I can't believe how bad store-brought produce tastes.

Being fast and loose with statistics proves nothing. Many of the children molested are young girls, and It is proven that the people who do it cannot handle adult sexual relationships well. The studies by the APA using the scientific method were exhaustively peer tested and are proved to be excellent measures of what it means to be oriented toward same sex partners.

I have many gay and lesbian friends - Eugene has allot of lesbian couples in particular - and they are well adjusted people who have happy productive lives.

People who are homosexual generally like partners close to their age and experience/interests just like us heterosexually oriented people, and should not in any way be discriminated against at all.

This is not so with pedophiles, a group of people whose predatorial nature makes it hard to trust having them reintroduced back into the general public.

I am very well educated on the topic, and don't buy crap built on wedge issue building and irrational hatred such as you spew.

You seem fascinated with rhetorically emulating oral sex. Kindly keep that predilection of yours' in the bedroom, I am not impressed with your childish and hateful behavior.

If you have not a thing nice to say when debating or engaging in lively discussion, don't say it.

If I saw someone gay bashing, I wouldn't hesitate to jump in on the side being bashed. I have also no fear about telling someone expressing hate verbally to can it when I hear it in the real world either.

So you might as well face the fact that you are not going to infect me with your hatred, and you are not going to score debate points talking in a tantrum mode as a child would.

I am not familiar with these actors, but I do know sodomy is practiced by heterosexual people, and not all homosexual men engage in that activity.

Louis P. Sheldon who wrote the spew that YertleTurtle likes wants concentration camps for people who are gay or suspected of being so, or who have medical issues he hates.

Lou’s brand of bigotry is loosing its punch as more and more Americans wake up and realize that gay and lesbian people face unwarranted and unprovoked rejection, prejudice and violence, not only at the hands of religious fanatics in America. Most people also realize his sites and writings are no more valid or accurate then Hitler's book, 'Mein Kampf .'

Maybe you can find something along the lines of death camps for the turtle guy to enjoy too as well as this for me. In any event, thanks for sharing this anyway.
