If Jesus were alive in America today, would He be a Republican or a Democrat?

Would He be a socialist, a pacifist, and promote every sort of social deviance? Or would He establish a police state in order to eradicate all social ills?

To hear it from the mainstream media, as well as from many churches, Jesus would favor one or the other of these scenarios. Indeed, many preachers are almost as eager as politicians to tell us that how we vote is a barometer of our religious faith.

Or, would Jesus be a libertarian? He just may be, if you spell it with a small "l". Just as a chaplain leading a team in pre-game locker room prayer asks for more important things than a victory in the upcoming game, it would be frivolous to ask God for Libertarian political victories. Instead, what I mean here is that Jesus did not have a political agenda. He never put a gun at anyone's head and said, "Follow Me!"

As He said to the church in Laodicea, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me." (Revelation 3:20) Even though this was a wayward and spiritually weak church, Jesus would not force His way back in. Rather, He would re-enter by invitation only.

I don't know about that but I bet he would be a perpetual defendant in a multitude of ACLU cases.

Morris Dees and the SPLC would probably be on his ass, as well.

Was Jesus a libertarian?

An irrelevant question, manufactured in some finite human brain.

The more important question would be, "Are libertarians like Jesus?"

Another important question: "How much money could Israel get out of him?"

Or would He establish a police state in order to eradicate all social ills?

He will establish a theocracy where there are no other gods, only the true and living God will be worshipped. Those who rebel will be killed instantly.

But before He returns to reign, I believe God's ideal is no government at all, no taxes on natural born citizens of this gov'tless country. All citizens would own and maintain their own tanks, warships, machine guns, etc. Any foreign invader would literally have to fight every citizen, every foot of the way.

Only godly men who are in submission to God can have this gov'tless country. That's the hard part.

I think Jesus would be pretty much apolitical.. and He certainly would not be a dominionist..

So all those Buddists, Hindu, Judao-Islamic, types, et. al., will be killed instantly???

Perhaps it is just me but that sounds less than compassionate.

"How much money could Israel get out of him?"

Only as much as He allows them to have.

Those who don't keep it to themselves, yes.

Perhaps it is just me but that sounds less than compassionate.

The Old Testament is full of stories of God commanding Israel to annihilate the evil and rebellious nations. Is it compassionate, on a societal level, to allow SOdom and Gomorrah to go on existing? The compassionate thing is to erratic the disease so the rest of humanity can prosper.

I don't believe in Bush's "compassionate conservativism" either, because it's basically evil. "Compassionate conservatism" is made possible because of legal plunder, theft of property and the redistribution thereof for the empowerment of the elite.
