I sent the video, "No Bravery" to all on my mailing list and received this reply from one who serves proudly. He was a little upset with me and those who would have kinship with the producers/message of the video.

I plan to send this thread to him. Please, share your thoughts with this soldier and help him understand exactly why we want to bring him home, asap.

..........

If you feel kinship with the "thinkers" who contrived this nonsense, then fuck you. As you chose to send this to me, you then condone the myopic values typical of those whose "truth" derives solely from what the ever-truthful media chooses to feed them, people who are so incredibly simple-minded as to truly believe the criminal behavior of a handful of criminal soldiers is somehow representative of the rest of us serving honorably (as suggested by this piece of tripe video).

I, on the other hand, am here in the flesh living this misery, carefully observing that there are good and bad people here, same as anywhere else on the planet. I am the one dressing the "owies" of Iraqi children, handing out bottled water to them in response to their ever-persistent "hey meester, gimme this or that"; I am the one listening patiently to a very bruised and cut-up Iraqi woman complain to us about being beat nearly to death on *suspicion* of being a prostitute (she wasn't, her husband asserted vociferously). I am the one who gets to hunt down her assailants, hopefully before they target a 12-year-old girl for the same suspected crime (we didn't catch them in time...they cut up the young children of another Iraqi family who were guilty of lord-knows-what). I get to observe firsthand, quite often through the sights of my M4 as I'm making split-second life-and-death decisions, that the Iraqis who are grateful to us far outnumber those who hate us. Even then, I see and know firsthand that most of those we do arrest or kill are not Iraqis at all, but religious zealots from other Muslim countries here to live out their twisted fantasies of bringing down the "Great Satan". They fight like the cowards they are, which is to say they don't fight at all. They hide behind women and children, and then run away after wantonly deploying their weapons in our general direction, fully realizing the Catch-22 they put us in. They are most often the ones killing the women and children whose deaths the ever-truthful media spins us as guilty of.

We are careful, under threat of long-term incarceration at Ft. Leavenworth, to abide by the tenets of our Rules Of Engagement and Escalation Of Force procedures. These rules are what prevent needless deaths. We go over them verbatim every single day, before every single mission. We fill out STACKS of paperwork every time we pull the trigger, in effect setting of a criminal investigation where we get to prove the legitimacy of our use of lethal force.

The fuckwads behind the AK-47s have no such ROE/EOF they abide by. They are cowardly murderers of us and their own fellow Muslims. They are also master manipulators of a media who knowingly and deliberately misrepresent events, evidently to churn out fodder for such as cooked up this video.

So Ron, in case you didn't catch my first suggestion, go fuck yourself for being such a self-convinced mindless follower of the blind, and quit sending me this shit until you get off your ass and come over here and see this all for yourself.

Then, and only then, will your opinion about this MY war hold any weight with me.

Yes, it's so much braver to call in an airstrike from 15,000 feet.

Is that an "honorable" comment to fellow citizens who not only pay your salary and provide for your needs, but for whose safety and freedom you're supposedly fighting? Serving "proudly"?---well, that's evident. Serving "with honor"? I'm not convinced.

the parallels between this and vietnam are striking.

vietnam: guerilla fighters who opposed a colonial forcer, and had so for decades, using 'art of war' tactics and preparing the battlefied.

iraq: the very same, viewed as 'cowards' who don't stand and fight. (yet live to fight again....so, the difference between a coward and a smart person is a matter of whether its you who is under fire from a superior force or someone else)

vietnam: thousands of soldiers die from government dioxin in agent orange when returning home

iraq: thousands of soldiers, and civilians in country, die from DU poisoning, with horrific birth defects.

vietnam: flag waving, starry eyed young men go off to war heroically, believing the false pretext of their engagement, only to return to find their 'sacrifice' was not appreciated. If you wanted appreciation for your sacrifice, please apply to Dole and Uniroyal, who were to benefit. Since vietnam is now communist, and we do business with them, the scarecrow of 'dirty commies are gonna hurt us' is disproved.

iraq: much the same, except the beneficiaries of their 'sacrifice' are different global congolmerates, such as halliburton and various oil pimps.

if this person wants to justify illegal war on the basis of doing it for our national security, this is entirely false.

of course, our troops deserve better. but if they aren't smart enough to understand they are simply disposable pawns, then they are not likely to come out of this any better than when they went in.

notice the massive cuts in vet benefits, and that returning soldiers are often so poorly paid they must live in poverty.

i am reminded of the fall of the soviet union, when the government left their military to twist in the wind.

there are really only two groups at work across all of history: those who exploit the weak and gullible, and those who are exploited. only the names change, but the game is perfectly the same.

and of the alarming number of suicides among troops, well, in vietnam it was 'self inflicted wounds.'

To believe the world is only as you think it is, is stupid. ~Don Juan Matos, Journey to Ixtlan, Carlos Casteneda

No, Sgt, we are not the sheep. It's you, sir, who is being USED by the global elites. The politicians who have sent you to Iraq are not concerned about you nor are they concerned about the liberty of the children and innocent people of Iraq. It's all about the acquisition of money and power for themselves. Might I respectfully suggest that you peruse the following:

War Is The Health of The State

War Is A Racket

Bring 'Em Home

and, sir, you might consider the words of Henry Kissinger who I believe speaks for his fellow elitists.

"Military men are just dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy."

"Cowards?" I don't think so.

Seems to me they are putting up quite the "fight."

I hope my neighbors will fight as well when U.N. troops come for our guns.

Soldiers take an oath to uphold the Constitution yet, that commitment gets overshadowed by the chain of command and the mission. Sadly, soldiers are pawns to be sacrificed for kings by those who control the game.

I have no way of telling, either but, we must remember that the soldier, in the field, is exposed to the same lies that we are. He may be on the front lines but, he still gets fed the same rations of "truth" we are expected to swallow.

His anger is misdirected. Why isn't he angry at Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice?

Why doesn't he see that these children wouldn't be needing him if US troops went home and our interference ended?

Uh huh. And the bombs and artillery shells and white phosphorus you poured into Fallujah as collective punishment for unwillingly providing a refuge to these "cowards"? Were they as careful as you are?

I hear you're going back to Fallujah again, since it has once again started to be a hotbed of "terrorists". Will the tanks and shells and bombs and airstrikes be as careful this time as last time, Sergeant?

As for my going over there and seeing it for myself, that's what YOU are supposed to do. You are supposed to be fighting for me, Sergeant, I'm your employer. If this is YOUR war, as you claim, quit fucking off and get it done, whatever it is you think you are doing over there.

Sadly, soldiers are pawns to be sacrificed for kings by those who control the game.

Reminds me of an old and apt Spanish proverb: Ahi van los leyes, donde quieren los reyes "The laws go where kings want them to go"---i.e., a "government of laws, not men" is still ultimately, a "government of men." :(

Sorry about the confusion.
