Olbermann death threat powered letter made fun of by Murdoch’s NY Post By: John Amato @ 11:05 AM - PDT Submit or Digg this Post

What would the conservative media be saying if Limbaugh was sent a letter like this? The NY Post: "POWDER PUFF SPOOKS KEITH"

Keith Olbermann flipped out when he opened his home mail yesterday. The acerbic host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was terrified when he opened a suspicious-looking letter with a California postmark and a batch of white powder poured out. A note inside warned Olbermann, who’s a frequent critic of President Bush’s policies, that it was payback for some of his on-air shtick. The caustic commentator panicked and frantically called 911 at about 12:30 a.m., sources told The Post’s Philip Messing. An NYPD HazMat unit rushed to Olbermann’s pad on Central Park South, but preliminary tests indicated the substance was harmless soap powder. However, that wasn’t enough to satisfy Olbermann, who insisted on a checkup. He asked to be taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where doctors looked him over and sent him home. Whether they gave him a lollipop on the way out isn’t known. Olbermann had no comment.

You can be sure that it would be front page news for The Post with pictures of Limbaugh going to the hospital–including interviews with the police and anyone one else they could find to make a statement. Then there would be a tidal wave on FOX News–you know the drill.

This is a new low for the right wing media of this country. Since Keith didn’t go public with the story, obviously he was doing what the police wanted and made sure not to cause a scene. He took the correct measures to ensure his safety as anyone of us would. It’s an outrage that in these times, a public figure would get a threatening letter and take it seriously, and then the right wing media would make a joke of it.

Paula Froelich only serves to encourage the wackos on so that they’ll continue this behavior. What a total disgrace.

Here’s a public email if you want to send Paula your thoughts paula.froelich@nypost.com (please show more class than Paula)

I wonder if Keith will be speaking out about this tonight?

(update) David Neiwert "Just in case the folks at the Post have forgotten, what they’re describing here — sending threatening letters through the mail — is a federal crime. Not only that, but fake-anthrax letters are widely recognized to be a form of terrorism, since they clearly "piggyback" off of the still-unsolved anthrax attacks of 2001Olbermann and the terrorists"…read on" Oliver has more… Filed Under: Countdown/Keith Olbermann, Right Wing Stupidity, Media Criticism Trackback | Permalink | Comments | Spotlight | EMail This Post September 27th, 2006

Everyone working for the mainstream media deserves one of these letters. If there was no MSM, there'd be no lies promulgated in living rooms.

No. No one in the media or in any other job "deserves" an anthrax letter. You see, in the United States we like to think we are free to say what we like without fear of death threats from neo-Nazi thugs. The butthead who sent this letter deserves to go to jail. But he probably won't because he is a coward who hides behind the anonymity of the US postal service and he probably sent this letter (and the story from Olbermann seems to indicate that other MSM newsmen got similar letters) from an anonymous drop box.

You may not remember, as you were probably a child then, but people actually died from anthrax letters shortly after 9-11. They DIED.

Since you are probably only about sixteen (I mean God help us if you are older than that and still can say something so reckless and irresponsible), you've probably never dealt with the death of a loved one or a father or of a child. You don't know what a miserable tragedy a death caused by murder can be. So perhaps you should be forgiven your ignorance.

But not your hate. Your hate is the product of a choice YOU made to be the way that you are. So you will fling invective at me and insult me and bluster, like a zoo animal flinging shit at the glass; but you will not apologize for saying that death threats are okey-dokey with you. You are as incapable of a sincere apology as you are incapable of introspection.

So good luck with your life. You will probably never be happy in the absence of someone else's misery, but that's their burden, I guess.

A bit sanctimonious today are we????

When you desire to become personal, you lose all credibility.

Climb down from your pulpit.

You've read enough of my posts to know that I am ALWAYS sanctimonious. As for the "personal" aspect of my response to what was posted, you read the post that inspired it yourself. It was worthy of any HFB on LP. I actually edited my response to tone it down, and still from you I get "sanctimonious"...

I'm here from LP because Christine has offered a place where personal insults and the like are avoided and we treat each other with respect. Bearing that in mind, I responded with as much respect as the original post could bring out in me.

Blue, you are not true to your own espoused creed on this forum. Anyone that has read your posts knows that full well.

No one attacked you here, no one. Anyone is free to say what they like here, so you say, as long as it does not disagree with your views or opinions.

Again, when you become personal, it impresses no one, interests no one, and it does damage to your credibility. Your choice, attack everyone in sight or attack their viewpoint, there is a tremendous difference.

The guy said that "everyone in the MSM deserves" an anthrax letter. My espoused creed, whatever that might be, doesn't allow for me giving that kind of statement a pass.

While you are correct that the poster did not say "You, Bluedogtxn, deserve an anthrax letter"; it was an endorsement of anonymous thuggery and the suppression of political dissent. You say that kind of thing in front of me and you are going to get spanked, to the extent I can let fly.

Respecting a person and loving a person does not mean not rebuking him; in the strongest terms if necessary. You may disagree that strong terms were called for, but that's an opinion we're going to have to split on.

I wish Angelspawn nothing but peace, the same as I wish on anyone, but that doesn't mean I play nicey nicey in the face of an outrageous comment. I live by my own rules, too, to the extent I have them. You get nasty/personal with me and I won't go running to no moderator (and I never have), but I won't sit there silent, either.

Wishing anthrax letter on a group of strangers. Sheesh. What are you going to defend next?
